For the longest time, I was extremely unhappy with my career path. I felt unaccomplished and stagnant. I felt like I wasted time, money and energy by furthering my education and getting a degree. The only fruit I saw from my degree was the amount of debt that I have piled up. In 2020 my life change drastically – I experience episodes of chronic depression for 16 months all while being furloughed from my job. I used that time as wisely as I knew how by applying for hundreds of jobs. Who would have thought that not getting a call back from any of those jobs would cause me to go into a downward spiral that negatively impacted my confidence and self-esteem. There were times I felt hopeless and lost – I questioned the plan God had for my life and the purpose behind getting a degree. I was literally jobless and continuously receiving that wonderful “Thank you for applying, but…” email. In 2021, after returning to my previous position, I decided to apply for a new position within my organization and was denied because I did not have the experience and qualifications needed. A week or so later, that same department announced an entry level position and I was presented with the opportunity. Full of discouragement, low confidence and doubt I reluctantly accepted the position and had an ounce of hope that things will begin to turn in the right direction. I encouraged myself by telling myself, “Welp, at this point, I can only move up.” I say all of that to say – when something is crafted for YOU, God will make sure you find your way to what he has already claimed YOURS. Nine months later, I was promoted to the role that I applied to and did not qualify for or had the experience for. Who would of thought, but God? I am encouraged and excited to tell you that there is truly a bright light at the end of each dark tunnel, no matter how scary it may seem.
