Terminal Island is a two-day outdoor exhibition among intergenerational and cross-cultural artists in San Pedro whose practices engage migration, labor, ritual, and diasporic memory. The project examines intertwined histories of racialized surveillance, incarceration, and displacement alongside present-day immigration entorcement.
From its history as an immigrant fishing community, to its role in Japanese American incarceration during World War Il, to its more recent use connected to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Terminal Island reflects a continuity of control enacted through shifting state forms. Here, displacement is lived, negotiated, and carried forward.
Terminal Island will be presented during AGCC’s Open Studios Day, a part of Arts Open San Pedro.
