Film for Kick the Ladder's 100th roll.
Dina Forehand and I collaborated in this sequel / prequel set of videos. Both have Ryan Perich as Mark and Kylie Sanborn as Sam. Script help from Brandy Winkler
Another exposure pull: From T2 to T11, near minimum focus distance. The background reveal effect is pretty dramatic. I was able to save the exposure compensation as a DaVinci Resolve Fusion composition so that I could use it in the future. DM me if you want a copy and instructions for using it.
In the future, I'd probably control the lens aperture with my electronic follow focus to facilitate a smoother pull.
Film exercise: Exposure pull
In this pull, the focus distance stays the same but the exposure is changed from T1.5 to T8. I keep the overall image exposure pretty consistent using a combination of a compensating VND pull during filming and some DaVinci Resolve Fusion calculations. I'm not sure what to use this for but it's pretty cool that I was able to get it to work.
For those unfamiliar, look at how the background seems more in focus at the end of the shot than at the beginning. Normally, in a focus pull, you change the plane of focus from one depth (eg foreground) to another (eg background). Here the focal plane is still centered at the same position (~right eye) but it is getting larger and so the background (chair) and foreground (nose) become sharper.
Gus Walz expressed love for his father at last week's DNC. It was touching. Some far-right pundits were repulsed. That's our society. Men are supposed to be stoic.
It made me reflect on my own journey with vulnerability. I too felt the pressure to be stoic. It sucked. Taking acting classes has changed that. I wanted to reflect on that journey.
Truly thankful for the S3 Hype Reel from @jochenrick This season of #kicktheladder has been an emotional journey for me and helped me realize how much both the community means to me and how much I mean to them. Looking forward to next season, y’all!
