Between PRECISION and FLOW. ✨
Step inside the world of Jochem Esser, where solitude, craft, and imagination converge into forms that feel at once futuristic and primal. His practice began quietly, borrowing tools from his father’s shed as a child and playing at being the lone craftsman. What started as make-believe grew into a lifelong pursuit of creation, where the act of making became its own language.

Jochem’s work invites us to pause, to respect the materials, the audience, and the quiet power of form emerging from process. His world is not one of answers, but of experiences, where meaning reveals itself slowly, like shadows moving across stone.

Come and see Jochem’s pieces during the open days of Collection 1 at ART[s] Gallery, The Vicarage in Bathmen.

When LIGHT Becomes the ART.✨

Light is more than illumination. It’s emotion, texture, and movement. It doesn’t just reveal the art… it becomes the art.

In Jochem Esser’s creations, light collaborates with space, shifting and breathing with every angle.

It draws shadows, sculpts geometry, and transforms perception, catching surfaces as though they were always waiting for it. Not just decorative. Not just functional. These pieces are living conversations between design and sensation.

Come experience how light completes the artwork at The Vicarage.

I’m especially drawn to the uncropped versions of the shots so had to share them here!
Each sculpture now features the new LED modules, which integrate a heatsink with a seamless stacking system for the ceramic elements.
Excited to share these soon at the expo!

Jochem Esser is a visual artist who is interested in the anthropological aspects of crafted objects.
In his work, he combines handcrafted materials with modern technology to create objects that serve a practical function but don’t have a real-life application. His inspiration comes from video games where objects are placed for world-building and don’t serve a practical purpose. For Jochem, creating these objects by hand creates a form of hyper-reality where there is no clear border between the real and the fantastical. In this way, Esser aims to create objects that are in the domain of magical realism.
Esser’s work navigates between the realms of applied and fine art. He draws inspiration from subjects like science fiction, applied game design and ancient artefacts.
