As many of my friends know, the process of making art is a deeply spiritual one that happens when it wants to and often when inconvenient. I work full time, have a life outside of music and am also witnessing/experiencing the craziness of our times.
I’m sure you can relate.
This record was such a fun challenge for me because I wanted to capture the feelings of my community that I hear on a daily basis. I wanted to tackle complicated emotions like on “The Parable of Martini” or “BOOMERANG”. I wanted to have fun in the face of a demonic empire. I loved making tracks like “Commie!” and “Wedding Ring (Where Ya From?)” because they got sick ass sounds and revolutionary optimism throughout. I also wanted to talk about my family’s experiences being immigrants in a hostile environment like on “Immigration Reform”. In my production, I wanted to capture my influences which included the Bolero, Reguetón, Cumbia, Dance and Hip Hop tracks that were the soundtrack of my childhood.
This is my most focused rapping and production yet.
This record is titled “Commie!” because of the main idea that drives it and because in my head I see some old MAGA guy listening to it, shaking his fist and saying to himself “Commie!”, hella mad and shit.
Let’s get active, we have nothing to lose but our chains, homie!

Dropping on the anniversary of Marx’s death, this project is heavily inspired by my experiences living in Sacramento. I thought it was important to document the feelings that we’re all feeling right now and provide some sort of explanation from a leftist perspective. From using Martini, my chihuahua, as a metaphor for the struggles of forming and maintaining relationships while dealing with trauma on ‘The Parable of Martini’ to the revolutionary optimism on ‘Commie!’ this project aims to start a conversation within our city about what we can do and the role Hip Hop can play.
