Today is my book birthday for “Max, a Little Axolotl - Breaking Out”! I am so proud of this book, and I hope your little readers will enjoy reading it as much as I did making it for them. This is my 4th published #graphicnovel and it still feels surreal to walk into a book store and see something I poured myself into for months, just sitting there waiting to find its new home. It’s always a special day when you get to see your finished book in person, it’s extra special today because I had just finished putting the final touches on book #3 (more on that later) when there was a knock on the door from the delivery driver. What a day.

Thank you to @jensenkarp , @katiecromwell , @jawilmesjr , @deanebelle , @idle_handmade and all the lovely folks who came out over the years to make @galleries1988 the special place that it was. Gallery 1988 brought A LOT of people together to celebrate the things we all love and gave artists like myself a space to share our work with the world. Without Gallery 1988 I would not have the career I do today. I think the LOST art show was the first show of theirs I attended and it rocked my world. I reached out to Jensen and he offered me a space on their walls. Over the next year I didn't sell one print, but they kept inviting me. The following year at Crazy 4 Cult I created the fake record album "River Tam and the Fireflies" and it went viral. I sold out of all of my prints at the show and @sethgreen purchased the framed piece! My career took off from there. My work through 1988 lead me to the creation of my first book "Alien Next Door". I had the honor of having 4 solo exhibitions at the gallery, that first Storytime show had such an amazing response, which eventually lead to an incredible Kickstarter campaign to turn those art pieces into a book collection. I made many new friends and got to meet some of my creative heroes, many celebrities (some good, some who turned out to be not so great), and even got interviewed on CNN for the Breaking Bad Art Show. One night at an opening I watched Usher roll up out front on his motorcycle, walk past the line of hundreds of people waiting to get into a show, drop his credit card at the counter and point out all the artwork he wanted and then ride off into night on Melrose Ave. Awesome stuff. I will forever be thankful to @jensenkarp and @katiecromwell for their special space on Melrose. I'm sad to say goodbye, but grateful that I had an opportunity to be a part of something so wonderful. I hope those of you that used to come out to those shows continue to find and support independent artists that you love, we all need it these days. ❤️
