@buschcrafts schmiedet direkt am Holstentor in Lübeck ganz heißes Eisen! Wenn ich mit @rolandbirr um die Welt reise, sind seine Messer immer dabei. Nun haben die beiden ein gemeinsames Messee entwickelt und ich hab mir heute mal die Produktion angeschaut. Ich besuche Nils in seiner Schmiede immer gerne. Heute war es allerdings so abartig kalt, dass uns die Franzbrötchen eingefroren sind! Unterm Pflaster liegt der Strand. Vielleicht auch die Saat für eine grüne Stadt? Mit @majagoepel und @turi.peter war ich in Potdsam unterwegs. Um übers Unterwegssein zu sprechen, das Unterwegssein zu fotografieren und dabei selbst unterwegs zu sein. Ich liebe solche Termine: spontan sein, auf zugeworfene Ideen reagieren oder einfach improvisieren. Und trotzdem einen Plan haben - denn am Ende muss ich ein Produkt abliefern. Nach aussen und im Ergebnis sieht es dann (hoffentlich) ganz leicht aus. Innerlich bin ich in solchen Momenten absolut on fire. Vielen Dank Maja & Peter für euer Vertrauen! It could have been so nice: a magnificent design by David Chipperfield Architects, big promises from René Benko, and then, one day, the tallest building in the city. For 1 billion €. Olaf Scholz wanted it, and the people of Hamburg got it. Now, after Benko’s bankruptcy and a two-year construction freeze, the Elbtower is finally scheduled to be completed. However, it will be 45 meters shorter and now with a large natural history museum inside. HOW TO TELL A STORY IN ONE PHOTO #1 I occasionally meet up with @christianpuille to jam. With two guitars, we sit under the T-Rex in his office in Altona and start playing. Christian isn’t just a great musician — he’s also an outstanding character designer, storyboard artist, and illustrator. What does that mean? When an animated film is planned, Christian develops the characters. He builds their own world, giving them personalities and faces that touch us. Our professions have so much in common, yet are very different. This time, I went to Christian’s without a guitar and built him a world. With the T-Rex, a floor lamp, and a very symbolically charged kitchen door. Oh, by the way: 3 Oscar nominations for The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom, Revolting Rhymes, and an Emmy for Tabby McTat: the productions Christian works on are amazing! He’d never say that, though. This encounter was my birthday present last year. To see an Oryx was already special to me - but meeting him in the heat haze at the railroad tracks was pure magic. I‘ve missed a lot of birthdays while I was travelling the last years, not only mine. This little moment somewhere in Namibia was a wonderful compensation. We saw these two Rhinos in the very early morning, but they have been too far away with a lot of branches in front of them. At the evening we found them again, and just for a second they cuddled right in front of us. Deep in my heart I am a news photographer. I always want something to happen in my photos, a story to tell. And if I take a photo of an animal, I search for more than just a technically right exposure of a creature. In this case the human-like behaviour touches me. But I can’t ignore the sawned off horns either. It’s terrible that dehorning is necessary to safe them from us! This is my very first photo of an elephant that I like. She was standing right next to our car, in the shadow of a tree. I waited for her to turn her head to the perfect spot and felt my heart beating. Sometimes at the moment of taking a photo I feel that something special happens. I was so happy and proud about this photo! Next morning I`ve learned that @luzaan_wildlife_photography , a great local wildlife photographer who accompanied us took almost the identical frame! I am glad we shoot photos, not bullets. Both of us could take this trophy home and we can share the experience of this encounter. Heike & Andreas are running the @baluleni_safari_lodge in the heart of Greater Kruger in South Africa. With their team the german couple created a magical place right in the bush: an unfenced camp with high class tents and thatched roof cottages. You never know with who you’ll have breakfast.
