“Palacios Tribute 3”
Central staircase of the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid.
“Palacios Tribute 3” is part of a photographic series paying tribute to Antonio Palacios, a key figure in Spanish architecture and the author of some of Madrid’s most iconic buildings, including the Palacio de Cibeles and the Hospital de Maudes.
In this work, Jesús Chamizo transforms a recognizable architectural space into a striking visual composition, where geometry, light, and repetition create a nearly hypnotic sense of balance. Architecture is no longer merely represented—it becomes a refined aesthetic experience, approaching abstraction.
His distinctive visual language positions the work at the intersection of architectural photography and contemporary art, offering a unique interpretation of Palacios’ legacy.
The series has been featured in specialized publications and selected for the Chicago Architecture Biennial 2017, and exhibited at the Instituto Cervantes of New York and the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago.

“Theater can turn the stage into a temple, and the performance space into something sacred. In South Asia, performers reverently touch the stage floor before stepping onto it, an ancient tradition that intertwines the spiritual and the cultural.”
In our engagement with the challenges of the present, we deprive ourselves of the possibilities of a deeply moving spiritual experience that theater can provide. In today's world, where intolerance, hatred, and violence are on the rise, and our planet is sinking deeper and deeper into climate catastrophe, we need to replenish our spiritual strength. We need to fight against apathy, lethargy, pessimism, greed, and contempt for the world we live in, for the planet we live on.
Theater has a role, a noble role, to energize and advance humanity, to help it rise before it falls into an abyss. It is time to restore that symbiotic relationship between the artist and the audience, the past and the future. Theater can be a sacred act, and actors can become the avatars of the roles they play. The theater has the transformative potential to turn the stage into a sanctuary and that sanctuary into a space for performance.
“Contemplating from the stage, we observe that majestic empty space, which now takes on a double meaning. One of awe, but also of hope, with a specific message: "The show, without a doubt... will go on."

STAHLRAUM / (The Transformation)
The staircase, from a practical point of view, is a construction designed to communicate several spaces located at different heights.
It has also been considered as a symbol of the progression towards knowledge, of the ascent towards knowledge and transfiguration, to the conscious and the unconscious.In “Stahlraum” (it means steel space in German), a transformation of that stair space takes place, turning it into different ways of following the path. Moving to different planes, levels and even labyrinths, as a simile of our own life, of that long-awaited search for knowledge, experience and transition.
