The Anticolonial Reading Group is back on Saturday 4 October, 2–4pm at SET Social. Building on previous editions exploring foundational anticolonial thinkers like Frantz Fanon and Walter Rodney, this autumn we’ll dive into Malcom Ferdinand’s Decolonial Ecology: Thinking from the Caribbean World (2022). Ferdinand, from Martinique, bridges ecology and decolonial thought, showing how colonial legacies and ecological crises are deeply connected. What does it mean to imagine liberation as an ecological project—and ecology as a decolonial struggle? ✊🏾✊🏽✊🏼 How can we build a “world in common” rooted in justice, care, and survival—for humans, non-humans, and the environment? Open to all, with a special welcome to those from gender and racial minorities and decolonial backgrounds. Facing barriers to purchasing the book? Email [email protected]. Full calendar and details on SET Social’s events page. Poster design by @jm.btr

For this second event, we dive into the writings of Frantz Fanon. This will be an open discussion based specifically on Chapter 1 ‘On Violence’ from Fanon’s seminal book, The Wretched of the Earth. From Palestine to Africa to the imperial UK: how can learn from Fanon to build effective strategies of liberation? ⏰  Saturday 26 April, 2-4PM 📍The Africa Centre, 66 Great Suffolk St, SE1 0BL 🔗Free registration on Eventbrite - link in bio! 📧Facing any financial barriers to accessing the chapter? Don’t hesitate to email [email protected]. 👥 This event is open to all, whether you are new to anticolonial writing or not. We particularly welcome those from colonised / diasporic backgrounds.

🔥📙NEW Anticolonial Discussion Group at the @theafricacentre this Spring: Walter Rodney, the Congo and Third World Liberation! 📙🔥 The Africa Centre and @booksagainstborders are excited to announce the launch of two new events happening this Spring facilitating open discussion, critical learning and rich conversation on the lessons learned from two giants of anticolonial thought, Walter Rodney and Frantz Fanon. ✊🏽On April 12, we dive into the writings of Guyanese activist, professor, writer, Marxist, and revolutionary Walter Rodney. This will be an open discussion based on 2 chapters from Rodney’s seminal book, Decolonial Marxism - 'Marxism as a Third World Ideology’ (Ch 4) and ‘The Historical Roots of African Underdevelopment' (Ch 7). 📖This event is open to all, suitable for those who have read Walter Rodney before and those completely new to his works, those involved in any movement building and those not. We especially welcome those from diasporic / anticolonial backgrounds! 🗓️ Saturday 12 April, 2-4PM 📍The Africa Centre, 66 Great Suffolk St, SE1 0BL 🔗 Free registration via Eventbrite - link in bio. What do these chapters tell us about the relevance of Marxism as a method of liberation in the Congo and the Third World? Amidst the ongoing capitalist extractivism and rapidly accelerating genocide, how can Rodney’s teachings be used to organise for a Third World built on economic autonomy, sovereignty and dignity? And most importantly - how can we apply these learnings to sharpen our own internationalist solidarity with the Congo and the Third World today? 📧Facing any barriers to purchasing a copy of the book or accessing the two chapters? Don’t hesitate to email [email protected]
