Years ago, I was getting up at 4am to watch movies on the Criterion Channel on the regular before my workday started. One that stuck out was Stories We Tell by @realsarahpolley —it changed the way I thought about how you could tell small, personal family stories.
Not long after, a friend introduced me to @alisontavel , who was making a documentary and asked if I could help. As she told me about it, I was reminded of Stories We Tell, and figured that was a bar we could swing for.
Fast forward many years, and @resynator is now streaming on the @criterioncollection , because life is fucking funny like that.

Most of my OG friends are as insane as I am, and we hang out by making stuff together. Aaron and I have been working on this one for a minute (since the pandemic), and I’m so excited it’s finally coming out. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it is really like to be in a scrappy, touring band trying to make it in the world, this is the show for you. This one is insanely personal and satisfying to me, and is one of my most favorite things I’ve ever worked on. I really hope you check it out and enjoy— first two episodes out today!

This is the story of the band that almost was. Even If It Kills Me is a deeply personal podcast, chronicling the journey of four high school friends on the brink of stardom as they navigate the turbulent waters of the early 2000s music industry. Through the lens of writer and narrator Aaron Joy, listeners are transported into the heart of the band’s rollercoaster journey, from hometown glory to the harsh realities of life on the road. It’s a raw and honest exploration of friendship, dreams, and the universal struggle of almost making it in an industry where success is fleeting and the price of chasing your passion is often steep.
