Happy Birthday to me. Honestly, as I age, these can feel more like referendums than celebrations. That said, I am genuinely proud of all I’ve accomplished and experienced. Thank you, Professor for the indelible impact you’ve had on my life. From the days of being a skinny little boy studying classical music - admiring you from afar, to the season of traveling/recording with you and Vision, you’ve been a consistent encouragement and example. Yours was some of the only contemporary gospel music that was acceptable in my traditional Baptist Church growing up. So you played a huge role in my formative years. Your songs were (and always will be) both sacred and fascinating. You were always kind, always teaching, always funny. You called me one of your favorite musicians which is still quite unbelievable and extremely humbling to me. No question, I wouldn’t be the musician I am without you. You’ll always get the credit for bringing Ashley and I together. I’m eternally grateful for that. You will be SORELY missed. You already are. I personally vow to keep your music and legacy alive. And I know I’m not alone in that conviction. I honor you today and forever. Rest well, Professor.
