I hesitated before seeing the revival of Death of a Salesman. Death of a Salesman Elizabeth Franz absolutely broke my heart in the 1999 production, and I wasn’t sure I needed to go through it all these years later. I saw it six times back then (it was the ’90s… rush tickets were basically the price of a movie, and I happily spent my coat check money on theatre instead). But we went last week… and I’m so glad we did. Arthur Miller was a genius. His writing resonates and feels deeply relevant and urgent, like it was written today. Directed by Joe Mantello, this production completely floored me. Every actor on that stage is doing extraordinary work. I know this play well, and still, they found new layers, new nuance, and told the story with both care and FIRE. I went with a group and deliberately sat apart… just in case I needed a quiet moment to cry in the back. I did. What stayed with me most was the catharsis. That feeling of being cracked open in the dark and somehow put back together again. It reminded me why we keep showing up. Why we keep listening. Learning. Making. And why I have to keep writing.
