Opening this Friday - Terse Daniel Burley, Jessie Evans, Carlotta Roma, Jim Shaw, Sophie Spedding, Will Vetch Curated by Carlotta Roma & Will Vetch Private view: Friday 7 November, 6-9 pm 8 November 2025 - 10 January 2026 “I want there to be things in my work that people can access, but also hidden secrets.” - Jim Shaw Over the past three decades, Jim Shaw has responded to American cultural history through painting, drawing, and sculpture. He has found inspiration in comic books, pulp novels, rock albums, protest posters, and amateur paintings; his ever-growing collection of found artworks has also been the subject of several exhibitions in its own right. Often unfolding in extended narrative cycles marked by repetition and cross-reference, Shaw’s works juxtapose images of friends and family with those depicting world events, pop-cultural phenomena, and alternative realities, blending the personal, the commonplace, and the visionary. Committed to undoing any sense of aesthetic or ideological purity, Shaw has turned consistently to his own life—particularly his unconscious mind—as a source of inspiration. For more information please visit the exhibition page on the website. Since the late 1970s, Jim Shaw (@jimshawstudio ) has developed a rich and multifaceted body of work that includes photographs, drawings, paintings, sculptures, installations, films, and musical performances. The publication “The Ties That Bind” addresses the commitments, obsessions, and conceptual territories that drive Jim Shaw’s practice: morality, fictional narratives, conspiracy theories, power dynamics and patriarchy, hair, and forms of cultural production, to name a few. Conceived on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition at @mhkamuseum , Antwerp, the publication collects 142 drawings realized between 2013 and 2023. The essays by Calla Henkel (@callahead_ ) and Mark von Schlegell accompany the images, projecting the reader into a fictional dimension interwined with Shaw’s practice, relying on his drawings as a backdrop of territories, scenes, characters, and ideas onto which they could project their own narrative. Copublished by Mousse Publishing and @mhkamuseum with a foreword by Anne-Claire Schmitz (@anneclaireschmitz ), “Jim Shaw: The Ties That Bind” is now available on Mousse’s online shop. — — Audio track by @congarou
