OKAYYYYY i can't hold it in any longer, lord, the boy is naturally queer really drops today in MPLS, get it at the ol book haus @bookhousedinkytown or stop by the salty saddle saloon for one. let it be known simply that this book is astounding and i am grateful to have brought it into the world in this particular form.
PRE-ORDERS for lord, the boy is naturally queer are open NOW! 48 pages of ecstatic, sexy, soulful, soul-crushing, and hilarious and i mean hilarious poetry from berkeley's own midwest-raised transsexual wizard's apprentice willow wilderness hour. originally published by the author in limited spiral-bound editions, now out of print as such, this is the "pocket edition–" slightly smaller, slightly cheaper, and with a new cover and each one handmade by yours truly (jimmy). please forgive the way semi-transparent paper photographs. the first edition thus is hand-numbered out of 100, 33 copies of which are available to order online, shipping april 15th. can't wait for it to drop online? get it in berkeley from willow on april 5th, or irl in the twin cities april 11th (maybe even earlier if i bring a few to @bookhousedinkytown ). truly some of the best work i've read in recent years and an honor to get my grubby little paws on. link in bio and all that.
yesterday looked a lot like this, though this time is so distant now. grateful to have such talented friends, and particularly @lucparkerhiart , who executed this painting of my sweet boo, forever (yes, she is still alive, this is NOT a memorial post) for his show last month, "Punk/House/Cats" at @this.and.that.2731 . now it's in its rightful place next to my front door. when me and boo lived above the garage at nudieland she'd always be in the window yelling at me when i was hanging out in the yard. she loved the play of light from the skylight and the vareigated glass in the door, not so much the raccoons that lived in the chimney and partied on the roof all night. she killed her first mouse up there. we spent whole winters huddled up together in my pink faux satin sheets and heavy comforter hoping the space heaters would stay good. anyways, this is one of those things that will be special to me forever–thanks, luc, for the artifact, and for letting her climb all over you while we sat on that floor and listened to records, and for capturing so much of so many facets of our minneapolis in your art, and for sitting next to me at the bar 💓
two exciting pieces of news: that very soon, i'll be getting willow wilderness hour's excellent book into your hands in pocket form, and second, that i will be reading from it and (for a third piece of news) from what is to become my next book at beautiful eagles 34 next wednesday, for a set that is, admittedly, to be less improvised than randomized... in any event, some things i've never done before, a lot of things i'm grateful for, and a lot of things i'm excited about. i'm just realizing right now how many drawings of bart simpson are on my fridge. thanks to ms. hour for letting me get my paws on her book and to william for inviting me to do this thing that is forcing me to hone in on my own, which i've been puttering on quite a lot in the last couple months...
twin cities zine fest is tomorrow, back after quite some time. i'll indeed be there, sharing a table with bryan per usual, with the usual fare, including a long-overdue reprint of lars's novella just four days over two years after its first appearance in english right here in minneapolis. resistance doesn't happen on the internet.
it is with heavy hearts that we announce WHAT HAS BEEN, texture freq's last show. rocking with you all has been a delight and a privelige and we're excited, at least, to throw one last rager featuring: the release of bryan's posthumous photozine collaboration with our dear friend august golden and local legends buio omega, in lieu, rubberman, s.l.o.g., and chemsexx. proceeds will be split between southside harm reduction, the sex workers' outreach project, and southside food share. and who knows, we'll probably find a few more unique thrills to offer along the way...
