Christening my new space at the 544 Park building with Thryn // She brings an energy that feels somehow impulsive and precise at the same time // Let me tell you, I was not feeling up to the creative process here and yet, soon in, the exchange with a great partner took me by the hand and offered energy and insights. Redemption presented instead of “earned”. It was magical.
End of an era for us.
This is a multi-parter…
In 2011 Melina informed me we were fostering a couple cats and that I needed to come home after work to receive them. The FAQ on the shelter’s website made the process seem high stakes - they’d survey our apartment, sizing us up, interview us to see if we were fitting fosters. But when the van arrived, the guy handed me two boxes curb side, and had me sign a piece of paper. Then he promptly drove off.

Inspired by the timeless fable, this electrifying premiere fuses highly physical dance, text, and audience interaction to question what happens when warnings are ignored, and who pays the price.
This promises to be a very special performance at @bmcctribecapac .

We are GUTTED.
(1 of 2) You do your best to prepare for this, but you will never be ready. Yesterday we had to let Ozzie go and face a life ahead without him. I’m walking around a bit nauseated, tight throat. I spent a couple hours doing battle with stony, clay soil to dig him a final resting place, and Melina lovingly fashioned a bouquet to adorn his body appropriately.
Ozzie had such a vibrant, engaging personality he won everyone over, including alleged “dog people.” The day he arrived in our lives, I cradled him belly up to get a sense of his attitude and he gently reached a paw out and let me stroke his pads. For the first year at least, other than an outsized purr, he barely made a sound. Then out of nowhere, instead of meowing he started doing these melodic trills, often with a pitch change that suggested a question mark at the end. As if to say “what’s going on?” He relished heights and was a phenomenal jumper - always touching down with a bit of surplus leap left. And from his perch, whether on the top of the fridge, or at least a high stool, he’d sit attentively watching whatever Melina and I were doing. We would say he was taking it in for his next life, becoming a nimble chef at Melina’s elbow. The moment we were awake, he wanted to be a part of our lives, constantly pushing in on the things we expected to be the limits of his patience or curiosity - but he was always there, ready to boop heads, or insist we break up the monotony of what we were doing with an intense love session.
