TNC | BELLY SCRATCH | 2026 @wimbledonual MA Puppetry grads Jeanzia Guan @jeanzia.lab , Izzy Jiang @jiang.izzy , Yunshu Jiang @yunshu.design | HEIMER The next Belly Scratch night will take place on 25th March @underbellyboulevard . Applications will reopen on the 6th April for the chance to perform on 27th May. What was the experience for you like brining your work-in-progress to the very first Belly Scratch at Underbelly Boulevard? For us, bringing HEIMER, a work that is still evolving and currently undergoing further development, to Belly Scratch was a very special and truly valuable experience. When we received the email saying we had been selected, we honestly couldn’t quite believe it — having the opportunity to present even a small showing at Underbelly felt almost like a dream for us. We feel incredibly honoured and deeply grateful for this opportunity, as we were really hoping to receive direct responses from audiences as well as professional feedback from the Underbelly team. Both have been immensely meaningful for the future development and continued growth of the work. How important are opportunities like Belly Scratch for theatre makers? We’re very grateful to the Underbelly team for creating such a safe and open space for artists, allowing the work to meet audiences while it is still growing and developing. We were able to receive immediate emotional responses from audiences during the performance, as well as written feedback thoughtfully collected and shared by the Underbelly team afterwards. Reading through these responses was incredibly exciting in itself. The feedback not only gave us great encouragement and support, but also helped us see much more clearly how the work might continue to evolve and where further refinement is needed. Being in this environment also allowed us to more carefully examine the precision of our storytelling and performance itself. At an early stage of creation, it’s important for artists not to rely too heavily on staging or technical effects such as lighting, and Belly Scratch offered a valuable opportunity to test the core of the work — almost like an important moment of self-assessment for us as creators.

✨ Very grateful to have taken part in January’s Belly Scratch at @underbellyboulevard ✨ This was a truly unforgettable experience for me.
