@jhamulecki is an elite Canadian ultrarunner, who recently claimed the women's Canadian record for the 100 mile distance, running 13:32:07 at the Tunnel Hill 100 in November. That also makes her the second fastest North American female in history; second only to the standing world record holder... all on her FIRST try at this distance!
In this episode, Lauren and Julie discuss her history as a figure skater and classical pianist, and her unconventional entry into competitive running in her 30s. Julie's first marathon attempt exposed an underlying health condition, that she's been working with ever since, and ultimately led her into ultra-distances. Hear how she has found balance in listening to her body and testing her limits, as well as going with the flow and staying open to experiences as they unfold.

Third timeās a charm⨠I finally made it to the @sulphurspringstrailrace start line for the 50 mile distance, and itās easily become one of my most memorable race days.
Just 50 metres in, I connected with an old running pal I met nine years ago; we caught up and kept each other going for the first 40 km. Then the rain. It turned the course into a mudslide, which definitely slowed things down and made for some frustrating kms, but when I saw my good friend @kmckenna77 and her boys at the 60 km turnaround, I was smiling again. And of course, my constant, @run_or_die_coaching - he hung out on the trail in support for hours, wearing a garbage bag and an old waiterās apron he found in the car like a cape (I really wish I had a pic!). At the finish, my family, most notably my niece Jenna, who made my win that much sweeter. 1st overall in 7:08.
A hard, but incredible day, surrounded by awesome people at every turnā¤ļø

First race of the season nearly a week ago and it was all of the race-day things - hard, emotional and worth itā¤ļø
Iām super thankful for the support out there at the Mississauga Marathon, which most definitely helped get me to that finish line for the win. Special shoutout to my coaching crew @run_or_die_coaching & @deniseemader who made sure I was ready for the big day. On to the next!
Pretty hard to beat a course like that! @rockcutultra 50k is an incredible race with the most epic views (which I enjoyed when I wasnāt looking down at my feetš). @deniseemader kept me strong up to race day, and @run_or_die_coaching expertly crewed me to the finish for the win and 3rd overall in 5:33 - thank youš
Another big thank you to Bobby and Marie for hosting such an awesome event and to all of the volunteers on the course.
I love race day because itās always about so much more than runningā¤ļø

Throwing it back to last weekendās Niagara Ultra 50k! An early start gave us a gorgeous sunrise as the backdropš
Ran an 11 min PR in the distance for first female in a time of 3:24:28, and had the pleasure of running with overall winner @aidan_rutherford for a good chunk of the race. Thank you @deniseemader for your thoughtful training leading up to this one, and of course to @run_or_die_coaching for the constant support - I couldnāt do it without youā¤ļø
Took these road legs for a big spin in the desert at the Black Canyon 100km. My first trail ultra and it was certainly equal parts beautiful and challengingšµā°ļø. Thank you @run_or_die_coaching for getting me to step outside of my comfort zone and for pacing me 40km to the finish! Brother Steven, for your support and great job crewing out thereš¤ And @deniseemader for your awesome program leading up to this race. A memorable weekend with some incredible peopleā¤ļø
Coach threw a marathon into the mix pretty late in the game, but Iām glad I did itā¤ļø Ran this one for Mom and snagged a new PR of 2:45:34, 6th Canadian female and 11th overall.
Thanks so much to my incredible family and friends for all of the love and support on and off the course. I truly couldnāt have made it to the start or over the finish without youā£ļø
Race day is an emotional roller coaster (pic 1 - 4 hrs in and still feeling fresh; pic 2 - hanging on for dear life with 800m to goš), but itās the amazing support from friends, family and fellow runners on the course and back home that get you through the roughest patchesš
A special shout-out to my mom and biggest fan who hasnāt missed a World Champs yet. I looked forward to her signature āWay to go!ā and lap countdown with every loopā¤ļø
Itās hard to sum up an experience like the @wc100kberlin , but one thing remains clear - thereās nothing sweeter than the final km of a 100k race!š
Adam @run_or_die_coaching coached and crewed me to the finish for a new PR, shaving time off of my national record and nabbing me 13th female. THANK YOUā¤ļø Huge congrats to @bernadette.benson for her awesome performance, earning her top spot in the WMA 50 class! Such an honour to run for šØš¦
