Wanted to visit japonica restaurant after seeing a reel about them. It’s such cute place with plenty of indoor seating + patio seating as well.
Saturday is the day to go (in my opinion) with farmers market happening walking distance from the restaurant.
Under cover coffee is also serving up some coffee in the morning from Friday-Sunday. (Just know that japonica is closed on Sundays. So no food!)
After trying the seared tuna bowl ($23) from japonica — decided to go try some other highly rated restaurant near by in Whidbey. Ended up grabbing some grilled Cod tacos from rocket taco + did complimentary tasting of berry liqueurs from whidbey island distillery.

! - Did a little doodle spread of my adventure from Whidbey island… was so excited about finishing the page I ended up misspelling Whidbey. 😭
📍Lotus Pond Vietnamese Cuisine — north Seattle
I recently got a chance to try authentic and delicious Vietnamese cuisine from lotus pond located in north Seattle.
Price averages from $10-20+ per dish but what stood out to me most was their portion size. Generous portion and they do not skimp on protein 🙏
Parking:
They have their own lot but also free street parking available if lot is full
Inside:
Lots of seating and can accommodate large groups.

Jed Henry event at Annie’s art & frame
📍Ballard, WA
Got a chance to photograph Jed Henry’s event. His art is widely known in the art community. With distinct ukiyo-e style in combination with anime/game characters — his art/prints are highly sought after.
You can definitely feel that Jed is super passionate about art and the joy can be felt through his art.
While photographing — I can see everyone just smiling and having a good time browsing through Jed’s available prints.
Art should evoke some sort of emotion. For me, I like the ones that can make me laugh - like the ones that Jed makes 🤭✨

Up on snacks is a play on the classic Beef and Broccoli as a tartare tartelette.
The tartelette dough is made out of juiced charred gai lan, winter brassicas and toasted sesame seeds. Inside the tartelette is an oyster sauce made from clean rich briny Shigoku oysters that we’re fortunate to have cultivated here in the PNW. It’s enhanced with Golden Mountain and rounded with some smokiness from Lapsang Souchong.
21 day dry aged ribeye coated in our fermented chili aioli mounded on top the tartelette. Pickled gai lan stems and broccoli flower to top. Just a little precursor to our steak au prahok dish.
The ribeye is sourced through @preservation_meat_collective . Some of ya’ll don’t know that bong Sea’n @meat_the_realtor another Khmer American is pushing out some of the best meat products in the country. Blessed to support and have that support 🙏🏽

📍paju - SLU, WA
Went for lunch! They are open for lunch from M-F 11-2pm. Their lunch menu is quite short (only 3-4 main dishes I think and several small dishes) and casual but affordable and tasty 👌
Definitely want to try the dinner menu! (I heard squid ink dish is one of their popular item)
🥘: vegetarian bibimbop
🍨: sujeonggwa, ginger cream, rice puff, misugsru, shaved ice.
Prahut Moan (chicken meatball) in the style of Japanese tsukune yakitori.
It’s grilled over binchotan and TX Honey Mesquite wood. We brush it heavily in a tare made from Mary’s chicken carcasses smoked hard in that TX Honey Mesquite, sake, mirin and in place of shoyu is Golden Mountain.
🇰🇭 Cambodians, we love our Golden Mountain.
It’s then wrapped in pickled Chinese mustard greens and served with tare and an onsen Cherry Lane egg yolk.
