One of my favorites from years past. Looking forward to the spring cubs that we will see this year and the season of discovery ahead of them. #alaska #wild #bears #getoutthere #babybear
Happy Mother’s Day to all the dedicated moms both wild and at home! I’m blessed to have a mother that instilled in me a curiosity of our wild places and an appreciation of the simple things in life! #alaska #happymothersday #bears #wild #getoutside
A good stretch, big yawn and back to sleep. These little guys expend so much energy that naps are mandatory and when mom joins in, a bonus. #alaska #bears #wild #wildlife_perfection #getoutside
Little bear, big fish, bad weather! Demonstrating her fishing ability this little one has an advantage over its peers. Finding and procuring food is essential for bears of all ages, this cub seems to have learned this lesson early. #alaska #bears #wild #getoutthere #camping
Bears are true omnivores and utilize foods that may surprise you! In the spring among other things bears will eat carrion, a variety of plants, including high protein sedges, clams and barnacles! Mom is teaching her cubs early. After she mashes up the barnacles with her powerful front paws, she and the cubs quickly lap up the resulting high protein slurry. Bears continually surprise me, we can learn so much from them. #alaska #wild #animalsofinstagram #bears #getoutside
I always say that watching wildlife, especially bears, is my drug of choice. I could do this all day, everyday, and am fortunate to be able to do this with some of the best people on the planet. Moments like this live on in my head during the long winter months- I can’t wait to get back out there. #alaska #wild #bears #getoutthere #camping

Moments like this are few and far between but are forever burned in my memory. Not many sows allow their cubs to ride on their backs but this mom was accommodating as the water would eventually engulf her clamming beds and she needed to make it back to shore. I’m looking forward to seeing this bear family and many others soon. #bears #moments #wild #getoutside #family
Can’t Touch This! Cubs learn early on how far they can push their mom, especially when it comes to food. Clamming provides an early season protein source for bears as they wait for higher calorie foods to become available such as berries and salmon along the Katmai coast. #alaska #bears#wild #katmai #wildlifephotography
Stranger Danger! An Alaskan brown bear sow’s job is a complex one. She needs to feed and protect her cubs while also teaching them the lay of the land- a 24/7 job. I admire the intelligence and resilience of these animals. #bears #family #wild #danger #getoutside
