2:09:18. Freaking 2:09:18!! Gotta learn how to look prettier at the finish line but what a time, what a day, it still feels like a dream. There are plenty of times in this sport where the work doesn’t feel worth it, but yesterday was a day that made me remember why we constantly put ourselves through hell. Learning how to deal with the highs and lows of the marathon has been tricky when there are some miles where you feel amazing and some miles where you think to yourself “my legs don’t wanna do this anymore” but thankfully I’ve learned how to tame those thoughts.
I entered 2025 with a PR of 2:12:34 and I’m ending the year with a PR of 2:09:18. I’ve told people that my goal these past couple of years is that I want to be in the conversation when it comes to US marathoning. I’d like to think I’m getting closer.

Boston can be a mental battle just as much as it is a physical battle. I think the best way to fight Boston’s toughness is to become immune to the hills, find a rhythm and then turn the brain off. This has felt like a long time coming.

Flavin currently holds a personal best of 2:10:50 for the marathon which he set in Boston earlier this year.

When JP joined Hansons Brooks ODP in 2022, he was already fast. But what happened next?
The New Jersey native didn’t truly unlock his potential until his senior year of college at @wolfpack_tf_xc . After joining us, he took on the marathon distance almost right away. A career that went from a 2:14:55 marathon to becoming a 2:10 marathoner, he currently holds the 3rd fastest time for our team.
In today’s spotlight, JP shares the mindset shift that transformed his running – and why his high school self would never believe where he is today.
His message is simple: consistency + time + dedication = the PRs will follow.
