Halfway to Yours had music but needed words. Co-written lyrics sometimes work, mostly not. This needed my solo headspace. Took the demo home. Put it on repeat for several hours so it would take up all the space in my head. I knew lyrics had to match the shifting keys. The ambiguity of the key centre, sometimes in one and sometimes in another, made me feel like it was unsure of its place.
Reminded me of early relationship days. Deeply infatuated. Felt like I needed to impersonate a better version of me. Just to seem worthy of her love.

Halfway to Yours started as a conversation with Mayte. We played songs we loved. One was Here There and Everywhere by the Beatles. Loved its innocent sound but complex harmony. Got us wondering: what would a response sound like in 2026? How to continue that musical conversation?
After Beatles talk, she played chords modulating through keys. Felt inspired immediately. Worked harmony and melodies there. Key centre ambiguous, sometimes one key, sometimes another. Like it was unsure. Built the core fast with not too much overthinking.

@maytepiano and i wrote this one together,
so it feels right to keep returning to it like this.
some songs make more sense when there’s a piano in the room.
Halfway to Yours is out now 🌊

found a little laundrette
and accidentally made it part of the song
a few takes
some things we didn’t plan
some very serious laundry business

i think i’ve started bringing the guitar everywhere
just in case something happens
or something wants to
most of these were taken in between☀️
new song ‘halfway to yours’ out may 8
this is what the song looks like
before it had a name
before it meant anything
just light, water, and time passing slowly
we kept these without knowing why
now it feels obvious

we didn’t mean to write this one with @maytepiano
it kind of appeared while we were playing things we love
a song that feels simple on the surface
but quietly changes underneath
we followed that feeling
later on it started to remind me of something else
that space at the beginning of something
where you’re not fully yourself yet
just trying to match the version of you
you think they see
this is a small piece of it
out may 8
