Not too old to remember birthdays and anniversaries!
Fifty years ago I had done a watercolour painting at the kitchen table of an image that became the front cover of the album in the hands of the cartoon illustrator who developed the idea.
The album had, unusually for me, a defined narrative form and the songs were written with a possible stage musical in mind.
The title track went on to be a regular in the set lists over the years and is amongst my favourite tracks.
On tour as usual in 2026, I am indeed too old for social media but not for a bit of consensual rock and medically supervised roll…

The deluxe set also includes, remixed associated recordings, unreleased recordings from 1983, BBC Live At The Hammersmith Odeon 1984 as well as a Blu-Ray disc of the high resolution audio, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos plus videos.

Former Tull manager, Terry Ellis, asked the artist James Grashow to do the cover art for Stand Up.
The hand-carved woodcut cover art, designed by Grashow, famously features an extra finger on Ian Anderson's hand, which has become a long-standing trivia point among fans. For the TRUE STORY about the making of the cover art – and so much more of Grashow’s work – check out the new documentary JIMMY & THE DEMONS, playing in select U.S. theaters starting in April.
