I used to listen to this song on repeatttt during long, unconventional gym sessions, because I had a vision. So when I saw it was trending I immediately added it to my current training playlist, and knew I had to make a reel. Back then I didn’t know what calisthenics was. Cheerleading was my whole life. I just wanted to be the best. Tbh I lost track of the number of national titles I won. I competed in 8 world championships with the Cheer Sport Sharks and 4 world championships with Team Canada Cheer. I won worlds with Team Canada in 2012. I quit cheer in the 2015-16 season. Late 2016 I found myself playing around in gymnastics gyms to see if I could still flip. Over the next few years I followed some girls on Instagram who did calisthenics and got inspired. I started taking myself seriously as a calisthenics athlete in 2019. I’ve since befriended all the girls I followed who inspired me and I’ve competed in the U.S., Mexico, and this summer, the world championships in Spain. I don’t often share my big successes because I believe our day to day is what matters. How I show up in each moment is either moving me towards my goals, or further from them. It’s the process that we have to fall in love with and that’s how I like to inspire people. With that said, it’s nice to take a moment to reflect on my career highlights. It reminds me of what I’m capable of and how untouchable I am when I decide to go all on myself. None of this has come without lows and adversities, let me tell you that. I’m convinced I am where I am because the only woman I’ve ever wanted to trade places with was the higher version of myself. And I grinded until I got there. And I maintain that mentality today. If you’ve ever wanted to be someone else, ask yourself this: do you also want to inherit all the sacrifices it took them to get there? The answer is probably not. Overcome your own adversities. Build your own legacy. The first step to becoming a legend isn’t copycat-ing someone else; its authenticity. For anyone interested, I have a journal prompt called “she is,” where I write “she is___,” on repeat for 1-2 pages of all the qualities I want to affirm about myself or step into. And it’s an honour to be here 👑 When you throw yourself onto some of the biggest stages in the world it’s so easy to gaslight yourself into feeling like you don’t belong. In Canada I know no one can beat me. But when it comes to the worlds stage I’m no longer at the top. And I second guess if I should even have a place there. It’s the humbling change of knowing you’re untouchable, to realizing just how far you need to go to even stand a chance. Lately I’ve been plagued with the thought “I’m not good enough.” And I chose to replace it with this mantra. I’m currently in my late luteal phase so I increased my calories. And while I’m in an overall cut, this particular day was in the midst of a maintenance week to give my body a break from eating in a deficit before going into the next phase. I also did cardio and a strength training session this day so I had an overall higher calorie burn. I’m sharing this because I want you to see how many factors go into calculating macros. My nutritional needs are going to be different from yours.
