Recording ‘The River’ was a magical life moment. We had 15 minutes remaining in the studio. We were trying to record the song with electric guitars, then the producer encouraged us to go back to acoustic instruments. With only enough time for one more take, we gave it everything we had, and were stoked with the outcome. This song means so much to me, and I hope it hits you right in the feels ✨

It’s hard to put into words the hole you’ve left behind, but sharing this feels like an honouring process.
My best Brazilian friend, producer, musical genius and all round legend, Marcelo Müller, died in a car crash less than two weeks ago…in the same car I helped him buy.
In one month, he was meant to pick me up from the airport and we were going to start a Brazilian project together, one we believed would take over the world! Life…and its curveballs.
I always felt like we were running out of time, but it never crossed my mind that you would die. Fuck, life is precious!
In a strange way, death inspires me. We are all going to die, and we never know when.
Follow your dreams. Take the leap. There is no moment like the present.
The first time we met in Rio in 2009, I was blown away by your musicality. You were 20, I was 23 and already far beyond me. You showed me how you trained your ears, intervals on intervals. I’ll always remember that.
I watched you play double bass with musicians twice your age, and you owned it. You could play anything. Over the years you became not just brilliant, but humble too. We became mates. We made music. I respected you deeply.
In 2018, you helped bring my album Animal Cities to life in Rio, with my Aussie producer @thomthommitchell - booking studios, arranging, gathering incredible musicians, giving everything. It took me five years to release it…and now I realise it’s the only body of work we’ll ever share.
That breaks my heart. And also makes it more special than ever.
My Brazil journey will never be the same without you.
I’ll think of you every Easter.

Sometimes I feel doubt about being a musician, artist, performer… what is the point?
Saturday night at @thedrilltheatrecompany filled my cup in a way that reminded me exactly why I do this. Nights like that bring me back to myself.
I’ve spent years trying to build a music career in Australia, and I’ve learned a lot. It’s a beautiful place in many ways, but I’ve realised I’m craving an environment that backs art more boldly, takes risks, and sees it as something essential, not secondary.
So I’m following that feeling.
I’m excited to explore new pathways, especially in sync and new creative scenes, and to place myself somewhere that feels aligned with where I’m heading.
Thank you so much to everyone who came to the show and shared such kind words. It means a lot. It felt really good to take up space and be my unapologetic self.
