I left with an open heart. I make it a habit to not form expectations when I travel somewhere. I feel they’ll distort my experience. You can never succeed fully in this of course, but the effort already makes a difference. I went to the Brazilian Amazon, knowing I’d travel to Indigenous communities that as @treesistance we have a close collaborative relationship with. I went with an open heart, curious about a world so different than mine, excited to see the Indigenous Territories, which are the most untouched, most biodiverse areas in the whole world. What I found was more of a mirror and more of a belonging than I could have ever imagined. We traveled to the Braganca Indigenous Territory, of the Munduruku People, where representatives of all Indigenous communities of the Lower Tapajós River Basin gathered for the elections of their Indigenous Council. We were the only outside guests, warmly welcomed in the communities. I came with an open heart, hoping to find new answers. I left with a full heart, recollected parts of old knowledge and courage within me that I thought I’d lost or forgotten. Amazônia, você me dá vida. Surara! 1. Right before the celebrations after the elections @ Braganca Territory. 2. Playing hide and seek with Chief Dadá @dadaborari @ Flona (Floresta Nacional) 3. A headdress in the sky while making our way to Braganca @ Rio Tapajós 4. The place where acai is made @ Braganca Territory 5. Home away from home @ Rio Tapajós 6. View @ Alter do Chao 7. After sleeping in the jungle @ Flona 8. Feeding furry friends @ Alter do Chao 9. Deep in Floresta Nacional @ night 10. The Pajes (shamans) after the ceremony @ Braganca Territory
