Bobby “Blue” Bland Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City Released in 1974 on Dunhill Records, this one hit #9 on the R&B charts. Later sampled by Jay-Z on The Blueprint. Known as the “Lion of the Blues”, Bobby blended gospel + blues in a way that basically shaped modern soul. 2. Muddy Waters I Live The Life I Love… Recorded in 1964 in Chicago (Chess Records era) — peak electric blues. Fun fact: Muddy basically invented Chicago blues, influencing everyone from the Stones to Hendrix. (The Rolling Stones literally named themselves after his song ) 3. Junior Kimbrough Meet Me In The City From Mississippi (Hill Country blues) — hypnotic, raw, repetitive grooves. Recorded in the early 90s (Fat Possum Records) when he was in his 60s… and still sounded like he invented a whole new genre. 4. Taj Mahal Queen Bee Still alive and touring, absolute legend. He’s spent decades blending blues with Caribbean, African + world music…basically proving blues is global . 5. Slim Harpo Scratch My Back Released in 1966, became a #1 R&B hit. He helped define swamp blues out of Louisiana… and his sound quietly influenced bands like The Rolling Stones. let us know what ya think?

Jesse Redwing (with Sloan Peterson) - on the Marquee Stage, Agnes Blues Roots & Rock Festival 2026. A true bluesman, Jesse is always brilliant every time I've seen him. This was the first time that I've seen Sloan, and I would like the opportunity to one day see her in her own right. 8 Ball Aitken was also invited on stage towards the end of the set. Excellent gig!
