Happy SWEET 16 to the love of my life. We happened before iPADS!!?!! On this day 16 years ago, April 27, 2010, the world was navigating the aftermath of the global financial crisis, while tech and pop culture were dominated by the recent release of the first iPad and the massive success of Avatar. +
Key Facts from April 27, 2010:
Pop Culture: The movie Avatar was dominating conversations following its December 2009 release, having recently become the highest-grossing film of all time.
Technology: Apple had released the very first iPad just a few weeks prior (April 3, 2010), changing the tablet market forever.
Music: Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” were top hits on the Billboard charts.
News: The Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which began on April 20, 2010, was dominating headlines as the leak intensified in the Gulf of Mexico.
Social Media: Instagram did not exist yet (it launched in October 2010), and Facebook was rapidly growing its user base towards 500 million.
Essentially, 2010 was the peak era of the “app” explosion, and 16 years ago today, people were just getting used to smartphones and tablets being part of daily life.
