"Can we bring up the house lights so we can see the beautiful diversity of our community represented here today?"
It was an in-the-moment decision to go off-script and ask the staff at Lisner Auditorium to bring up the house lights so that Vice President Kamala could really see how beautifully diverse the audience was on Wednesday at the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders Forum.
I had the honor of my life sharing the stage with Poorna as we engaged in conversation with Vice President Harris, the first (but not last) Asian American Vice President of our country.
It was a whirlwind moment to come to this moment, as I had only been asked to join her 48 hours before and I made the cross country trip to make this happen.
All the thanks to the OVP Team for your truth and faith in me to lead this discussion and represent our community.
Extra special to have Jeannie Mai and my brother-from-another-mother Philip Kim introduce my on stage of this historic moment. To also know Grace Choi, Linda Shim, and so many other friends from the community played key roles in making this happen.
Still surreal to have community heroes of mine tell ME that they're proud of me. To have friends sit front row and cheer me on so loudly is so humbling.
But most importantly and most special to me was to be able to stand on that stage and to say "hello and I love you" to my two kids Jacob and Charlotte and let them know that EVERYTHING I do in this life is for them.
For much of my life, I was always told that I'm "just something...." I was just a kid... just an immigrant... just a home salesman... just an insurance salesperson... just a junior corporate employee... fired & unemployed... just a podcaster... just just just…
I just interviewed Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the USA, at a White House hosted event because she specifically requested to her team that I join her on that stage.
As VP shared, "Do not let anyone tell you who you are, you tell them who you are."
I will never forget May 3, 2023 and I hope this inspires you to share your story, speak your truth, and live your life according to your own terms.
Bringing down the cost-per-hit of the Hype Fire bat, one hit at a time.
A great game for J. 2 for 3 with a single and double. Also tried batting lefty for the first time in a game and got bat on ball. Way to go!
새해 복 많이 받으새요!!
In our Korean culture, we celebrate the new year with a bowl of 떡국, tteokguk/ddukgook, or rice cake soup!
The whites of the rice cake symbolize a renewal and new beginning. The oval shapes represent coins, a symbol for the blessing we wish to receive. And traditionally, eating a bowl meant that you “turned one year older”.
It was a joy to cook for our kids today and share a bit of Kirk culture and customs with them and their friends. Not sure how many more years of these moments we have left so making the most of it.
And the bonus was that all the kids liked it and my daughter even asked for seconds! 😍
Happy New Year! 🐴
