EUROPE - @friendshipcommanders are flying over for sludge doom metal rock grunge tour May 15-June 6. What started as us playing @buickaudra ’s songs at higher volume and speed has turned into something super special and it’s incredible to be able to take her songs and this music we make worldwide. Having the best time with the Sulfur Yellow @sonordrumco big boys and I think the heavy beech SQ2’s may just be the best drums I’ve ever played! Gonna be playing a new Momentum kit over in Europe with @friendshipcommanders May-June and I’m stoked to put it through its paces! Gonna have to throw a RIMS mount on a 14” floor tom since they don’t make 15x12 racks without custom order - weird right? See y’all over there and remember to Always Be Hitting As Hard As You Possibly Can (ABHAHAYPC).
Someone requested ALTAR be added to the set list for the upcoming European @friendshipcommanders tour so I decided to make this playthrough live today! I love this song and it’s near the top for one of the hardest drums parts I’ve ever come up with. By the time I get to the last chorus I’m barely breathing between all the fast single pedal action and the back-and-forth patterns between the toms and crash cymbals. Truly no idea why we do this to ourselves. Stoked to play this again, and the full video is up on my YT and of course - see you in Europe May 15-June 6!

As a drummer it’s important to always make the most of an instrumental bridge, especially when it’s in 15! Love that @buickaudra wrote this, and relish any chance to play 4 against 3 on a ride bell against 16ths on the kick drum. Among Monsters remains one of our coolest and weirdest songs. @friendshipcommanders leave for Europe in two weeks! See you over there!

Lots of fun bits in here, like the skippy fill halfway through the first verse, the triplet fill between the rack snare and hats, and my first first time playing slowed down triplets up top against straight 16ths on my feet. BEAR by @friendshipcommanders turned 6 months old last week! Here’s a vid of @buickaudra and me tracking MELT w/ @godcitymusic with the drum and guitar stems cranked. I’ve been thinking a ton lately about just the two of us playing together, and the sort of magical-seeming pocket and push and pull that’s developed between us. Past Buick’s incredible songs and voice, it’s what makes us so unique and musical (to me). Whether I’m off on a tangent while she’s holding it down or I’m plowing ahead while she’s simultaneously singing at maximum volume and playing a multi-note rhythm/melody hybrid part that jumps across twelve frets, we always land together and it always feels locked in. I’ll never want to change this or chain it to a click or grid of any sort! It’s just too great as is, and I’m addicted to playing music with her in this band I love so much. Actual real-ass rock-n’-roll.
So stoked to play over in Europe this May/June and beyond! I could do it every day.
