“I personally don’t see a compressor as a compressor nowadays, because mixes that come in are way more squeezed than they were back in the days. I see them more as a tool to vibe to. The compressor is the way to bring back life to the song or enhance the mood. To me, in-the-box mixes are very static and flat-sounding most of the time. Some electricity from the real deal instead of the perfect zeros and ones is what’s mostly missing to connect with a human soul in a much more pleasant way.”

Today’s listening session: ATC25 and Kii Seven
We spent some time today with the ATC25 alongside the Kii Seven—two very different approaches, both with strong pedigrees and loyal followings.
To ATC’s credit, they delivered exactly what many listeners appreciate: a composed, balanced presentation with a familiar character that’s easy to settle into. Very assured. Very consistent.
The Kii Sevens, on the other hand, brought a different perspective—more forward in their presentation, with a level of precision, control, and dynamic expression that immediately stands out, especially in less-than-perfect rooms.
But as always, this isn’t about declaring a winner.
It’s about listening.
Every system interacts differently with its environment, and every listener brings their own preferences. What matters most is spending time with the music, in your own space, and deciding what feels right to you.
