Hey guys, Mik here to fill you in about what we had going on with the Swag X Cooked Radio party!
This time around you guys asked for Dominican food so we had to deliver! I was so stoked to cook this menu, I hadn't had much experience cooking this cuisine but a friend of mine has folks from the DR and it was always such a treat having dinner with them. After a lot of research and chatting to my friend I decided on a couple of classics for the menu with my west coast fusion spin on em!
For the appetizer we did pastelitos which are a Dominican empanada. For the filling I did a classic French red wine braised beef, I pulled the beef, reduced the liquid and then mixed it with olives with pimento, traditional DR spices and some tomatoes with chilies. All of this encased in a beautifully crispy and flakey lard based dough was a perfect pair with Salsa Rosada.
For the main we took it back to a comfort DR classic with La Bandera Dominicana a traditional and delectable lunch! The Pollo guisado was the star of the show, starting with overnight marinated bone in chicken thighs. We seared the chicken which caramelized that marinade making the perfect base to start the delicious stew this was going to become. Tomato, garlic, cilantro, red onion, peppers, leeks and that DR spice mix I mentioned earlier all married together to infuse the chicken with more flavour than I even thought possible! The stew and red kidney beans plated atop some lovely steamed rice, but we didn't stop there, the lunch wouldn't be complete without some Tostones! I had to stray away from the traditional thick cut and smash method but we still double fried them to perfection and hit em with my spice mix.
I was so delighted to see everyone enjoying the food, Binky said it reminded her of mom's cooking and it brought a tear to my eye. This menu was such a hit we will be running it back for cooked 008! Thank you all for coming to hangout with us once again, see you soon<3

hey guys! details for my birthday have changed!
it’s now a fundraiser for mutual aid (slide 2 and below as well, for details) as well as the downtown eastside women’s centre - funds going towards both equally.
ITS MY 21ST BIRTHDAY (on february 14th!)
I’ll be hosting a PWYC open decks birthday fundraiser for clothing and supplies for Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, as well as mutual aid for a good friend of mine. 8 pm - 1 am
Venue is 825 e hastings (vines art society)
Entry by donation, half of proceeds going towards purchase socks, underwear, and more essentials to bring to the Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, as well as half of proceeds of door tickets going towards mutual aid. (Suggested donation 10$!)
We’ll also be taking donations of items to bring to the DEWC!!!!

as a nurse who works and lives in Tehran, Iran, Em is under extreme financial and mental pressure. following the regime’s decision to begin a slaughter of its own people, Em has experienced unimaginable trauma from treating patients both at work and in the streets. on January 19, Em’s best friend, roommate, and coworker passed away following a struggle with the horrors they’ve faced during the uprisings.
$1000 will be sent to Em’s roommate’s family, while the remainder will help Em find a new apartment, take time off nursing to grieve, and seek professional help
