I’m so excited to share the incredible project I’ve been working on with you! I am one lucky artist- and what a golden opportunity to create this mural on ‘The Book Burro‘. ‘The Book Burro’ is a mobile book give-away machine that will travel around the region, especially in places with less access to libraries…..brought to you by Durango’s beloved Maria’s Bookshop @mariasbookshop & Marias Literary Foundation @mariasliteraryfoundation . This mural will feature a desert landscape w/ a gal and her Burro. ‘Don Key’, (the adorable model) lives with the astonishingly talented artist Veryl Goodnight outside of Mancos. (My burro for this years Burro Fest) The ‘Book Burro’ will have its first launch at this year’s Mancos Burro Fest on June 20th :) @mancosburrofest . And thank you to the Durango Arts and Culture Lodging tax grant for funding this mural! @durangocreativedistrict . Haha that’s so much information! As we live in our soft empathic human bodies in the heaviness of the highly triggering now- I’ve been thinking a lot about the words used to describe our nervous system’s reaction to traumatic events- Fight. Flight. Fawn. Freeze. I held these words as anchors (as well as the word LIGHT) to guide this painting.
The result is a dream that is weird and open- full of space for stories about wrestling with difficulties, support & witness, transformative healing, and the importance of guarding our inner light.

I want to share some things I’ve created over the years that contain messages of hope, resilience, community, and the power of US. Everyone.
Art & music are gifts I connect to, esp in difficult moments. I love the powerful artistic responses I am seeing everywhere…images and voices emerging - reminding us of our strength, illustrating our current story of resistance in the long story of HUMAN RESISTANCE. ‘We Go Together’ is a painting I made into a mural in Portland @commongroundwellnesscoop in 2016 after this Fascist was first elected. And a song ‘We Will’ - written even further back. Keep fighting for each other. Stay strong Minneapolis and all who are working everyday in obvious ways and in the shadows to ABOLISH ICE and to hold these Fascists in office accountable for their ongoing harms.
