In 2019 @brookebermannyc wrote the role of a self-deprecating, sardonic, smartass and awkwardly funny woman and told me she wanted me to play her. Forever grateful for Brooke, Jen (all the Jens), Keeley who grew up in front of our eyes, Andy, my unintentional soulmate on this project, and the whole team of Pretty Doesnât Hurt. Getting to play Jess was wonderful, with a lot of heart and a lot of cringe. Much love to all involved

All the Jobs I Didnât Book This Year: 2024 edition.
Yearâs not over, but I had too much fun making this, so sharing it early. Featuring impeccable eye rolling, and a song that not only encapsulates some past situationships but also my toxic relationship with this industry. âď¸
In all seriousness, some of these characters were hella fun to play and audition for. Grateful, always, for the gift of playing pretend.
Also, somehow I still havenât gotten @samtheanatolian on a professional set yet. A travesty. He even yawned on cue. You canât teach that level of talent.

Maine so farâŚ
Second week of shows and weâre having a ball!
Thank you @jennhaltman for finding such a perfect cast, Chris for a rehearsal room full of playfulness and humor, and especially Wendy for writing the funniest smartest woman Iâve played in a long time.
And thank you Madelyn Pugh for inspiring us all!
If youâre in Maine, come see The Laugh Track at @portlandstageco till the end of the month. I love these people, and you will too. â¤ď¸
Happy Motherâs Day to the best there is!

When Madelyn Pugh Davis and Bob Carroll Jr. began writing for the popular radio show âMy Favorite Husband,â starring Lucille Ball, they had no idea it would begin a working relationship that would span 50 years. They went on to create the television show I LOVE LUCY and crafted the character of Lucy with wit and hilarity. Madelyn not only wrote most of the physical bits Lucy does, but would try them out herself to see if they could even be done.
Madelyn and Bob wrote episodes as fast as humanly possible: overnight, over the weekend, over breakfast at Schwabs, on napkins, in notebooks, at Jess Oppenheimerâs house. Theyâd hop the fence and sneak into the studio late at night to write in their office (and sometimes in the studio executiveâs officeâŚ). They made each other laugh. They argued over the thermostat. They threw paper planes out of writers room windows. They signed written contracts about each otherâs annoying office behavior. And they somehow got a script into Lucyâs hand every Monday for a show to be shot just days later.
Madelyn was a âpioneerâ of comedy, a âgirl writer,â and the funniest woman behind the funniest woman we all know and love.
Iâm so grateful that through her interviews and her memoir, and my research for this play, Iâve gotten to know her a little bit too.
If you want to see a play inspired by the start of Madelynâs career, how I LOVE LUCY came to be, and some insight into the woman who wrote the blueprint (and the woman who then performed it)âŚTHE LAUGH TRACK by Wendy MacLeod, directed by Christopher Grabowski, is playing up at @portlandstageco all month! Come see us!

Here are some moments when I felt wholly and completely free in 2025
1. Sunrise swim and final shoot day with @elize_ahrens and @austinsmoak7
2. Getting lost in the music in Broken Thread
3. The final shots of Two Socks film.
4. HanakÄpÄŤâai Falls. Will never forget this day.
5. First time stepping in the ocean in Hawaii
6. First time on a horse. Felt like home.
7. The Effect. (It was hard not to be charmed by Rex this whole scene)
8. First days in Wyoming. Morning coffee on the porch. Crisp fresh air.
Love you, mean it âď¸
New Yearâs Eve: homemade pumpkin bread, friends, @samtheanatolian in his bow tie, @jaythebeerdo in his cute shirt.
New Yearâs Day: walk through the park in the fresh snow. Now we rest. For a moment. âď¸
December. Winter Solstice. Honoring Peter Loffredo. Reuniting in old haunts (the Little Theatre. The Buttonwood Tree) to pay homage to the man who formed us, who gave us the love of what we do, and the power and guidance to keep doing it.
The Big Snow. All the little moments.
The time to be happy is now.
