An introvert in a teaching context is a set-up for likely disaster...this is why it still amazes me I've survived this long. Really thankful for good days. Appreciating you @_ladygay ... your transparency opened up rich thinking that we will continue to tend to over the days ahead.

Tomato Tomato FA 211 Problems of Structure in Art Production May 8 – 23 Parola Gallery UPCFA In Tomato Tomato, artists revisit the idea of ekphrasis, not through words but through acts of making. Traditionally, ekphrasis refers to the verbal description of an artwork. Here, it becomes something else entirely: an academic exercise gone delightfully rogue, where the task was not to write about art, but to make it again—differently. At the heart of this exhibition is each artist’s ability to distill the essence of their own creative processes. The works are not about copying, but about clarity. They are about identifying what matters most in their way of working, and using that as a lens through which to reconstruct, reframe, or even discard the original prompt. The results are fully-formed pieces that speak less to where they came from, and more to how they came to be. The title Tomato Tomato (pronounced both ways) gestures to the slippages in meaning, perception, and intent that occur when something is translated, even when it’s translated into itself. What’s the difference between a copy and a response? Between quotation and authorship? Between knowing and remaking? The original works aren’t here. That absence is intentional. What you see is what remains after influence has been metabolized: works that stand on their own, even as they carry the ghost of something else.

March 02-08 | HAPAG FREE ENTRY to Exhibition Opening (only) on March 02 from 6PM Hapag is a distinct Filipino word for a dining table, an object harboring communion, dialogues and intimate shared experiences, may it be the convergence of agreements or contentions. With the idea of gathering in mind, the group serves a conversation on the objectivity and transcendent nature of performance, parallel to the mundane yet ambivalent significance of the dining experience within the bounds of a hapag.

“Hapag” examines the intersection of Performance Art Practice and Archival Practice, bridging the ephemeral and the enduring.  “Hapag” features archives and documentations of performances: performance objects, artifacts, residue and remnants; giving weight to the records of the performance action, transforming the fleeting moments of performance art to lasting dialogues.  Across the week-long exhibition, curated live performances will take place. Ex Machina Deus: Manmade Nexus Gallery "Ex Machina Deus" turns the concept of "Deus Ex Machina" on its head, emphasizing the irreplaceable power of human creativity and the intrinsic value of handmade art and design in the digital age. Focusing on the human-ness, this exhibition and series of activities will explore the psychological and imaginative processes behind artistic creation, and the unique human touch that technology can not replicate. By celebrating the intuitive and emotional depth of the creative process, "Ex Machina Deus" reaffirms the artist’s role in envisioning and shaping our collective dreams and aspirations. In a world increasingly influenced by technology, the activities and exhibition curated for SODA WEEK 2024 reaffirms the irreplaceable role of the artist’s hand, voice and imagination. The group exhibition will feature works from a diverse group of artists whose practice represents the unique power of the hand. Their man made works invites viewers to reconnect with the tactile, the emotional, and the expressive power of art, emphasizing the timeless value of human touch and creativity combined with the power of dreams in shaping our collective future. - @jon_cuyson
