In the inland Seto Sea of Japan are the art islands of Naoshima and Teshima. They are called that because the architect Tadeo Ando, along with other artists created a series of museums and art installations. We stayed in a Mongolian Yurt near the Chichu Museum.

I made this sculpture a few years ago, but now I have mounted it on a large balanced arc which will sit on top of a 15 foot vertical pole.

It was a great honor to accompany my dear friend Jose back to his home country of Guatemala. He has lived and worked in the United States for 20 years and tried to get his citizenship for him and his family but it wasn’t possible. Jose learned English, had his Social Security card and paid his taxes. His wife Brenda is a psychologist and his son Josecito is studying computer science. . At the beginning of our trip, Jose and I are posing under my new sculpture at the Durango airport. Jose didn’t work on this one but provided valuable assistance on many of my other sculptures. The story still has a happy ending because while Jose was helping me build Susan and my house and Art Studios, his brother Felipe was building a beautiful house for Jose in Guatemala City . Josecito and I both really like Flaco Jimenez, who is providing the soundtrack for this video. He just died last year, but his music lives on.
