FYC, Day 13.

Hi friends. Today voting begins at
@theacademy . I'm having all sorts of feelings, understandably. I've been dreaming of this since I was 5 & chasing that dream - in various incarnations - ever since. For most of my life the dream was to be nominated for Best Actor, & yet over the last few years all I've wanted is to tell a story that makes it to nomination day, not just something entertaining but words & characters that move people, maybe make them laugh or shed a tear or two.... But most importantly, feel seen. And maybe feel a little less lonely in the world.

There's so much about my journey that has changed over the years, and it's certainly met its share of hopelessness and despair. (Otherwise known as a "Monday" or a "Thursday" or a "___day" in Hollywood, oof.) And then on rare occasions, something magical happens, & I get to feel wildly hopeful.
.
Ironically, it's the story about a deeply lonely man who just wants a friend that has restored my hope both in this town, but also people.
.
So while today I might be terribly nervous and anxious and desperate to feel seen by these good humans on the nominating committee, I'm also incredibly grateful for the people this little tale has brought into my life, whether a brief but pure encounter after a performance or screening (usually it's someone who wants to tell me about their best friend, which is just the loveliest thing I can think of ☺️), or an excited email from a student who stumbled upon/worked on it in class, or a thoughtful soul who saw it at a festival & wanted to let me know they get how profound that loneliness can feel &, by extension, they get me too💙

And, gosh, I've been sent so much love, y'all🙏

If you could, I'd appreciate all the likes & shares you can muster today. Since many of my FB peeps are in LA and NYC, the chance that keeping this post afloat on the old timeline might reach that very important group of 👀 warrants a teeny tiny plea on my part.
