We loved partnering with @mastersuniversity in a day of serving our community. Over 60 Masters students joined Axia on multiple projects. Some of those included:
1. Making dinner for 13 foster and adoptive families and sending handwritten notes of encouragement to them.
2. Serving at multiple family resource centers at local Title 1 schools, organizing, cleaning and tidying up.
3. & 5. Spending time in 5 different foster/adoptive family homes, caring for the families by engaging with their kids and completing household chores.
4. Cleaning up local high school campuses, writing notes of encouragement and bringing lunch to the staff.
6. Collecting over 70 bags of food for school resource centers and delivering them to school social workers.
Thankful for the hearts of these students who jumped in and did any task asked of them. What an amazing day!

Every year Axia helps provide Thanksgiving meals for over 300 local families. We can only do this through the partnership and donations of community members, churches, and businesses.
This weekend there will be 3 food drives happening at local grocery stores. Saturday at Walmart in Canyon Country and at Grocery Outlet on Plum Canyon from 11am-2pm. And Sunday at Walmart in Canyon Country from 11am-2pm.
Please come out and shop and donate items! There will be volunteers in front of the stores to collect your donated items. If you are not able to shop this weekend, but would still like to donate please DM us.
we are also in need of financial donations to purchase a turkey for each family! If you are interested in giving a tax deductible donation, there is a QR code on the second slide or DM us for more info.
We are also in need of volunteers. This is a family friendly event so bring the fam!

We had the privilege of attending the premiere of “Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot” last night.

This movie is based on a true story of families in a small town in East Texas that decided to lay down their lives for children in need and took in foster child after foster child, ultimately adopting over 70 kids!

This story shows how just one family, especially one family in a pastoral or leadership role, can help to ignite a movement by leading by example.

There are currently over 400,000 children in the United States foster care system.
•
If you’ve ever even had a question about what role you could have in caring for these children, whether it be as a foster parent, or in a support role please go see this movie.

Thanks to all of your generous donations, we were able to give out full Thanksgiving meals to about 300 local families last Friday!

It makes our hearts so happy to picture families gathering around their tables today, with plenty of food and the opportunity to celebrate and eat together.

Hi, we are Jefferson and Shannon Henson and we are the founders and Executive Directors of AXIA.

Our life was completely rocked during our many years of fostering kids and caring for under resourced families in South LA. Our eyes were opened to needs we never knew existed. We were introduced to the concept of grief and joy being deeply intertwined. We saw both deep brokenness and also God’s redemptive power to restore broken hearts and broken families.

We had the privilege of adopting 4 of our children and giving birth to 2 more. We also have a beautiful former foster daughter who is now a mom herself and has 2 children who call us Grandma and Grandpa. Our family is complete.

And yet our hearts still beat for seeing children in need being cared for by loving families. To see under resourced families be provided with the care and support they need.
•
Our goal with AXIA is to care for vulnerable children by supporting the people caring for them, whether that be their bio, foster or adoptive families.

I am a very lucky person. Not only do I get to have a crazy life filled with joy and activity, but I get to do it with my best friend. Someone who is kind, wise and has an adventurous spirit that cannot be tamed. She is a generous mother who always serves, a wise friend and counselor to many, and a wild adventure partner who can’t wait to see what’s up ahead. We celebrated her 40th Birthday yesterday in a way that was specifically made for her.

@spellersthemovie has been a project that shines a bright light into a dark and overlooked space. People like DM (@23dmg ) are truly fighting for autistics to have a voice and be heard. Those who were beautifully and fearfully made are consistently being forgotten, pushed away and seen as unintelligent. The very foundation of Spellers is presumed intellect, just because the outside looks a certain way we should not ever presume that there is no comprehension or speech. This flies in the face of most current thought. The film elevates and broadcasts the stories of non-speakers finding a strong voice for all to hear. Both practitioners and practicers are heros!
