Bordeaux 2025: A modern day 1961? Might be the longest and most in-depth report I’ve written regarding a vintage.. as well as the hard reality of past EP campaigns and real thoughts about how to think about this year’s campaign.
The last night of a long work trip always has its own vibe. Tired, grateful, a little worn down, but not quite ready to see it end…One more glass in Paris, then home. Merci, France. 🙏
New episode of Bottled Up 🎙️🍷
This week I sat down with wine critic Jeb Dunnuck and we went deep — Rhône reds, Bordeaux verticals, mezcal margaritas, warm-weather wines, and a very honest conversation about AI trying to replace human taste.
Spoiler: it's not going well for the robots. 🤖
We also got into unforgettable tasting moments and what the future of wine criticism actually looks like when everything's moving this fast.
Wine still needs people. Always will.

Bordeaux’s 2023s are now in bottle. See how they performed in a far from straightforward year!
“I came away more impressed with the vintage than I expected to be, and I found the wines not only better, but more consistent than they showed during En Primeur.”

That’s a wrap on another great Bordeaux trip… this time doing deep dives and verticals, and trying to understand these châteaux and vintages as much as possible. Too many brilliant bottles and visits to show them all, but what an education.. a whole lot of work ahead. 🍷🍷
Henri Lurton doesn't say much about what he's built at Château Brane-Cantenac... The wines say it for him. 33 vintages tasted, full report live on JebDunnuck.com.
"What the vertical makes clear is the degree to which this estate has changed. The early wines are pleasant, charming, and very good Margaux. The modern wines compete at the top of the appellation as well as all of Bordeaux. The gap between the two is not subtle, and I think it’s safe to say that Brane-Cantenac clearly plays with the top wines of Bordeaux today.
I don’t put much stock in the 1855 classification as a guide to what’s actually in the glass today. But that old 19th century nickname for Brane-Cantenac, “The first of the seconds,” certainly isn’t far off." - Jeb Dunnuck
