What an honor it is to have been awarded Best Production Design for The Entomologist at this year’s @nfftyfilm festival!
I had so much fun collaborating with Lauren and Tate in the months leading up to this production, spending many late nights deliberating the design of Rita’s apartment; focusing both on how the architecture would best inform the narrative of the film and how to make the design visually interesting for the viewer. The apartment was in turn shot so beautifully by my partner in work and life, Tate Stüssy, who makes everything I do look way better than I could ever imagine.
Rita’s apartment build was completed through the hard work of so many friends, including the work of Niko Karassik who led the construction team and made sure every element of the set was built with a high level of professionalism.
Forever in awe of Erik Charlotte Von-Sossen who designed and hand-crafted Rita’s cockroach costume, and Evelyn Lee and Abby Poulos who created personalized costume and makeup looks for each character to fit into this uncanny world.
Thank you to the entire production and art team who made this all possible! And of course, none of this would exist without our valiant writer/director, and my good friend, Lauren Chappell, whose brain continues to amaze me—congratulations on a wonderful film.

The design of this film was inspired by the experience of piecing together memories you aren’t sure even happened.
Logan and I worked together in the weeks leading up to this shoot to figure out ways to seamlessly integrate full builds into a black void of ones’ subconscious. Then, after designing, planning and shopping, my art team and I built and dressed five unique sets in the span of just three days. I had so much fun creating this world from scratch. Thanks to Logan for bringing me on and to the rest of the crew for making it all happen!
