I wrote this one a while back, being bombarded on my devices with all the horrors of modern humanity that just never seem to end.
What has been happening in Ukraine, Palestine, Iran, and so many other places around the world looks less and less like armed conflict and more and more like outright genocide.
We're becoming so numb and desensitized to it because we see this horrific treatment and killing every day on our little screens, and then just... Go back to work..
And my lil songwriter brain thought - how might people not just ...go back to work???
Well maybe if that little song got stuck in their head!
Make something catchy, and maybe they won't forget about it, maybe it will stick with them.
It's not meant to make light of the situation, it's meant to haunt you as you catch yourself singing along.
So sing it with me now! Bombing schools in Iran? It's not a "pre-emptive stabilization effort", it's f*cking G-E-N-O-C-I-D-E.. looks like genocide to me 🎶🎵 😶

It was really fun to put this together, and to tell the story of how this song from the Rock Band Camp at @ethosmusiccenter , to recording the chorus with @rainezra getting into the studio with @samarnoldbass and @kirk.kalbfleisch.drums to rocking out with @hazlsradworld and Jakey and @jmlongmusic and @dannyaustinmanning and @aaronkmusic for the release.

LIGHT ON 💡 out FRIDAY!
This is the opening track to the Pure Joy EP that releases this week and I wrote it about the feeling of wandering and driving and traveling and the paradox of feeling free, but searching for home along the way.
I fucking love this song, and those lines in the bridge are some of my favorite lyrics I wrote for this EP. "I started smoking cigarettes again because I miss my dad" makes me want to cry.

Really excited to release Emotional Kid (the song, and the EP) in a couple weeks.
I wrote this song as a letter from my current self to my young self as a way to heal the hurt of feeling like being a soft, sensitive, emotional kid was a weakness and something to be ashamed of... The song has helped me make a little more peace with that, and I can't wait to share it with you soon 😌🙏🏻
