Crossing the finish line today at the end of a tough 30 miles on Dartmoor in terrible weather conditions. Finally after almost 9 months of the toughest infantry military training in the world I get the honour of calling myself a Royal Marines Commando and wearing the famous Green Beret #royalmarines #commando
Fight from 2013 fighting for the @cagewarriors bantamweight world title.
I was originally the reserve fight for the bantamweight tournament that was happening that night. Luckily for me one of the fighters that won their first fight got injured and I was able to step in to the final to face @brettjohnsmma after winning my first fight of the night by TKO in the second round
The fight was non-stop from start to finish across the five rounds. Brett did a brilliant job at timing my strikes for takedowns and the fight became a battle between me trying to land strikes on the feet and avoiding his takedowns and cage control. I managed to get long periods on top in the later rounds and genuinely felt like had done enough to win and was just getting going in the fifth round.
At the end of the fight, I knew it was close and you could sense in the cage that nobody was quite sure which way it was going to go. Unfortunately it went the way of Brett via split decision. Two judges scoring it 48-47 for him and one scoring it 48-47 for me
I had probably lost a few of the earlier rounds and early on in the fourth round you can hear my coach Karl Tanswell say âhow much do you want that belt sonâ. I went on to win the remainder of that round and the next one.
Probably my best moment in the cage even though it was a loss I had only been back training full-time in Manchester for six months after having almost a year out when I was living back home in Carlisle so was very proud to have pushed through 7x5 minute rounds that night
Mark my words I will be in a position to be cage side as a coach in the corner fighting for world titles with my fighters from @centralperformancecentre

Two home grown fighters from @centralperformancecentre making debuts. Great performances from both with a win and a loss both via decision in competitive fights. Less than two years ago I was in the same building wearing a different shirt with two other debut fighters but now on a new and exciting chapter thatâs still just getting started
Big fights confirmed for the next few months already but shows like @elitecombatchampionship are the backbone for the scene and a top platform for fighters to gain experience from.

Worked in the gym Tuesday. Executed in the fight on Saturday.
Ring craft, when to strike, where to strike, and at what angle are still massively overlooked at the amateur level. Fights fought on a straight line are easy fights to lose. Anyone can get caught there.
Hitting pads is great for sharpening technique and getting repetitions, but live striking and live striking drills on a real body are the reps that really count.
If there were a book with 100 pages covering the entire striking game, and the final two pages were left blank for each athlete to break it down and interpret it in their own way, those two pages are what i want to read as a coach.
The intricacies. The differences. Thatâs where their real strength is. Those things should be leaned into, not coached out of the athlete.
Working with some great fighters at @centralperformancecentre right now. It wonât be long before everyone wants to be on the mats there. But this current group will always carry weight with me as the first real Central fight team
