Today, I’d like to take the pleasure and opportunity to say Happy Anniversary to my wonderful, amazingly beautiful wife! God has giving us 2 years! 2 years of love, laughter and favor! We laugh almost everyday and I thank Him for that. We’ve also encountered life challenges. Interestingly enough, I’ve even become utterly grateful for such challenges because you’ve me that you are really down for me and all in for us! I recently had the distinct honor of warming up the stage for one of my bass IDOLS, the legendary Victor Wooten @victorwooten while accompanying smooth jazz keyboard sensation, Brian Simpson @briansimpsonpiano ! Didn’t know he was on the bill until right before I flew out to the event. Also didn’t realize that during our performance, he stood at the side of stage opposite to me and watched our whole set!! (So glad I didn’t know until after! Lol) He graciously, yet emphatically told me how much he enjoyed my sound and my playing! This coming from someone who heavily inspired my bass journey was equally humbling as it was encouraging! I’d met him on a few occasions over the years after going to his featured shows, but something about sharing the stage with this legend and getting his “Bass” seal of approval was deeply validating. Smh. Vic, thank you for your kind words and the musical and human example you’ve been to me and countless others! So, seeing this post made my week! For me it’s goes past the honor and recognition. (which is actually humbling, considering the source!) To me, this shows the genuine love and respect that can be shown between 2 professionals and 2 brothers. If you check his previous posts, you’ll see that @iamgbody has a uniquely, dedicated bass room in his new home and it’s amazing! G and I share a high level of respect and admiration for the musicians he pays homage to in this room decorated with their own signature pieces. Each one signed my the men, themselves! Make no mistake- They are Bass Gods! But when I saw this post here, it reminded me of the brotherhood that is made possible when we share the gifts that God gave us not only to the world, but also (and possibly, more impact-fully) to those within arms reach. The men in these posts have literally been an inspiration, a big brother to reach out to, taught and imparted directly into ME and therefore have a profound impact on my life and musicianship. G. Body, my dude! You line right up with these guys in every way listed! I hope you know that.
