Workshops: Beyond Stereotypes Reclaiming Your Voice and Personal Authority Two introductory workshops for Asian Americans @jbcseattle Chapel More info Email: [email protected] Register links below So often with racial stereotypes, cultural and family conditioning, and the impact of historical racial trauma, Asian Americans have been taught to ‘not make waves,’ taught how we “should be,” in order to survive and belong. This has high costs to our individual voice, creativity, and our sense of self. It also limits our visibility, our contribution, and the impact we could make. This can leave us overthinking, over analyzing, and wanting to get things ‘right,’ vs. knowing what is right for us. In these workshops, we will explore the questions of, ‘How do we know what is authentic for us, outside of other’s expectations? How do we show up fully for ourselves with courage and honor our culture at the same time? To address this topic, Janice & Akiko are hosting two introductory workshops Sun, May 17, 1:00-2:30 pm Cost: Now Free! Register- https://forms.gle/FaTep21gdZWK2Q8J7 Personal Authority for anyone who identifies as Asian American In this intro workshop will explore our conditioning, what has shaped our beliefs and expectations. Learn some tools to re-connect to and trust our own voice, and to gain clarity to make decisions that are right for us. Sun, July 19, 1:00-2:30 pm $30 register- https://forms.gle/WKJjC8T7tyhSvtxc6 Personal Authority for anyone who identifies as Asian Female Asian women navigate layered stereotypes shaped by the intersection of race and gender-often cast as quiet, accommodating, and compliant, or reduced to extremes like the ‘Dragon Lady’ or ‘Tiger Mom.’ These narrow narratives can obscure our complexity, diminish our leadership and disconnect us from our authentic selves. In this workshop, we will explore the impact of cultural expectations and internalized oppression—the subtle and overt ways we may participate in our own erasure, minimize our experiences, or doubt our inner knowing. Together, we will create space to reconnect with our voice, fuller expression, and cultivate unapologetic self-trus

Language is not a barrier around food and fun! 2025 #TasteofYesler is in the books! It was great getting to support and participate at this free annual event at Yesler Terrace Park! Had a great time running the free raffle game and pass out onigiri (#onigirisanzan). Unpictured & the cutest event was the Cultural Attire Kids Contest. 🙌🏼 Mr. Ben and his whole team are all-stars for all the community building they do! Thank you JBC volunteers for bringing your love and presence!

Happy Spring! We hope to see you at our next "In the Kitchen" gathering on Sunday, April 27 at 1:30pm in Seattle! The Women’s Institute for Solidarity and Empowerment (WISE) is partnering with the International Migrants Alliance (IMA) and Japanese Baptist Church (JBC) to explore and document the experiences of women migrants through our "In the Kitchen" collaboration! It has been such a warm, heartfelt, and delicious experience to welcome friends from different migrant communities to share food and learn about cultural practices & stories about their experiences of migration. These sharings will be compiled into a cookbook that will be released at a community learning forum at the conclusion of this collaboration later this year. There are limited spots for each "In the Kitchen" session -- please RSVP (one RSVP form per individual attendee) so we can ensure enough food and language support! Location info will be provided upon registration. Registration link is in our bio!
