As a lifelong Brooklynite, my passion for the arts runs deep. I believe our work matters because we bring the impossible to life. Serving on the Production Contract negotiating team showed me the power of collective action & the uphill battle to improve working conditions. From off-Broadway to my current position as an ASM on Wicked, I’ve seen major contract disparities despite equal workloads. I will fight for all members because equitable protections & wages must be protected. *Link in Bio for Full Statement!* @wearestageleft
Please sign this open letter to the Broadway League.
During times of emergency, the Broadway League has the ability to keep theatre workers and audience members safe.
On January 25 they failed to do this. Workers were docked pay for being unable to commute to work due to unsafe road conditions and closed public transit. Others were injured in their attempts to go to work. And many audience members were unable to cancel or exchange their tickets, putting them in an uncomfortable position: be out the money, or risk trekking to the theatre. We are asking the Broadway League to do better by ALL of us.
So whether you work in theatre, or are a fan of theatre: please consider adding your name to this list. Link in my story!
“My first formidable memory of a Broadway show was seeing ‘Wicked’ when I was 8 years old. I remember sitting in the mezzanine and I turned to my mother at intermission and said, ‘I have to do this.’ I remember connecting so deeply with Elphaba, and the story. I try to take a moment when I call the show to look at the mezzanine and think about that 8-year-old kid who needs our show in their life the way I did, and still do. What I’d say to my little-self now is don’t give up on your dreams. However wild they may seem, manifest so deeply that the world can’t do anything except help that dream come to fruition.” - Jonathan Bach, Assistant Stage Manager, @wicked_musical
