Really like this photo by Jim Coke from last week’s Jug Jazz, joined by some second set co-conspirators, and also a shot of Granddaughter Ellie’s hand assisting mine on guitar. Tuesday night, very fun band, as Dean and I are joined by Corbin Jones on bass and Leonard Thompson on piano. 7-8 is the quartet set. Come check out the cool new tunes and stay for the sit-ins! Jug Band 2771 E Broadway, Long Beach
Fun Birthday Hang listening to great music with friends!! Clay Jenkins, Joe Labarbera, Edwin Livingston, Larry Koonse, Ivan Malespin. Beautiful!! #jazz #samfirst
A few pics from recent adventures playing around the country, and a shot of my friend Tommy Morimoto and me in front of John Coltrane‘s apartment on 103rd and Amsterdam. Jug Jazz tonight!!! In addition to the stellar Drum and Bass duo of Dean Koba and Eric Messerschmidt, I am joined by the wonderful and acclaimed guitarist Will Brahm tonight. Should be a lot of fun and hope to see you there.
Since you guys liked that last transcription, here’s another one I did over 20 years ago. My crappy handwritten drum transcription of Roy Haynes time & comping with the Pat Metheny, & Dave Holland from “All The Things You Are” from Pat’s Question & Answer trio recording. Note Roy’s 4 measure phrase comping style. https://youtu.be/H3nNaD8g3QY?si=CwUiwFknMBZiYdYY #jazztrio #drumtranscription #patmetheny #royhaynes #royhaynesdrums #comping #questionandanswer #allthethingsyouare
Thankfull for Jack Dejohnette’s contribution to Jazz. I did a little transcribing of his playing from Keith Jarrett’s Tribute album of Just In Time years ago. I saw John Beasley’s transcription being shared and I thought I would share mine. Very interesting stuff! I was lucky enough to hear Jack in person many times. Always Inspiring! #jazzdrumming #drumtranscription #jackdejohnette #keithjarretttrio #music #comping. https://youtu.be/CVJzR0Zo74w?si=EHvgZAcMOJ6t22R8
