Greetings from Prague!!!! What a whirlwind of a week of learning new things in the world of dance... We want to thank the amazing Afro-Brazilian Zouk dance duo, Carlos and Fernanda, for being fabulous hosts and allowing JAZZ AIN'T DEAD dancers, Candice and Jerome Melsaun Warren, to train with them every day for a week and share their craft. Their artistry is incredible and we can't wait to see them again when they come to New York City. Thank you, Carlos and Fernanda! We love you... MUAH!!! NEW CLASS! I'm so excited to announce that I'll be returning to Cumbe for their fantastic "Dance For Joy" Series in Brooklyn on Saturdays, Noon - 2 p.m. for a 10-session performance workshop based on the movement of Katherine Dunham and Jazz dance! Last year's show, we KILT IT. Come Join us and PERFORM! Time: Noon. Ten Saturdays October 7 - December 9 Price: Donation-based... Yay! It's going down THIS SATURDAY! Vocal explorer Philip Hamilton kicks off the summer with a Memorial Day weekend show on Governors Island. Saturday, March 27 at 4 pm. This special event is being presented in partnership with Cumbe’s Ultra Busk Series and the National Jazz Museum in Harlem. Hamilton’s music is a blend of jazz, soul and swing with hints of Jarreau, Jobim, Nina and Nascimento.  His special guests for this event include drummer Damon Duewhite,  keyboardist Vana Geirig and choreographer Candice Michelle Franklin.  As part of the program, Franklin and Hamilton will perform an excerpt from “New Life”, their upcoming collaboration inspired by Dance pioneer Katherine Dunham.
