Uh oh… what has Jay done to himself this time? Don’t worry, it’s not an injury! It’s something that everyone at risk for colon cancer or that is at least 45 years old should be doing! Watch the video by going to the @ebodyboarding Insta page Linktree in that bio and clicking the ā€œKeepin’ It Realeā€œ link! #colonoscopy

9 trips going back to 2016 to one of the most beautiful places on the planet @tavaruaislandresort with @vickireale @saigereale and @kieranreale making memories and lifelong friends. The magic of this incredible place and the people that live and work there fills our hearts every time we go, and we can’t wait to get back there next year! Vinaka vakalevu to all our #tavitubetour crew who make it possible for us every year! @ebodyboarding šŸ“· @fijichili

My spine doctor’s orders for this trip was to not surf anything over 1 foot. I haven’t always been one to listen to the doctors. Maybe it was the ā€œTavarua magicā€ or the balmy waters…all I can say is that the ocean has always been a place of healing for me and I’m just thankful that I survived a week in the South Pacific surfing 2 to 3 times every day @tavaruaislandresort without re-injuring myself. A massive thank you to all of the guests, my family, and lifeguard staff on our #tavitubetour trip for encouraging me and making sure I was OK. The plan is to take a couple weeks break to try to finish the healing. šŸ“· @fijichili

Well, today was a milestone for me. I broke my neck exactly 112 days ago and I’ve been out of the water longer than at any point in the 46 years that I have been riding waves. The absence of riding waves every day has challenged me both mentally and physically. I did not expect to be able to legitimately catch waves on this trip but all of the elements conspired today to convince me to give it a crack. These clips are my first session in nearly 4 months. I went a little haywire and surfed three times today and tonight, the muscles in my upper back and neck are a little sore from paddling, but that is to be expected after being immobile for so long. The joy of being able to ride waves with my family in one of my favorite places on the planet @tavaruaislandresort is more than I can describe in a post on Instagram. I think the smile on my face in the final clip says it all. I may not be even close to 100% back to where I was, but this is a start and I will take it. @ebodyboarding

It was actress Bette Davis that first uttered the phrase ā€œOld age is not for sissies!ā€. I’ve certainly found that to be true the last few years. I had an unprecedented run of great health that lasted nearly 60 of my years with just a couple of minor injuries, and never saw a hospital, ambulance, no medications, and solid level of fitness and mobility. Just a bit before my 60th birthday, the wheels started coming off. In the ensuing 2 1/2 years I’ve had things happen to me, some of which were my own doing (broken collarbone, broken neck) and some of which were just genetics (I won’t get into the details). My life is now busy with lots of doctor visits (pulmonologists, cardiologists, hepatologists, neurologists), new medications, nervously using AI to diagnose anything that feels ā€œoffā€, and obsessing about my eventual mortality, whenever that may come. Through it all with @vickireale by my side, I’m managing the cards that have been dealt to me healthwise grateful that my life thus far has been full of adventure, love, life and experiences that have enriched my 62 years beyond measure. No, I’m not dying (as far as I know), just baring my soul to the social media world that is notorious for depicting all the good but none of the bad to show that you that none of us are immune to the effects of aging, and to encourage you to take care of yourself as best you can- keep moving, live life, eat healthy, don’t overdo anything, and work with what you have. There are so many dealing with health issues much worse than anything I have going on and I never lose sight of that. Thanks so much for the wonderful birthday wishes. I look forward to the day I’m back in the water once my neck is healed and though I won’t be surfing the biggest, heaviest waves, or battling the crowd for the best waves, I will be the one with the biggest smile just grateful that I can once again bask in the natural beauty and healing power that the ocean has given me for the better part of my life! All the best! Jay

We lost a furry family member today. Brandy Melville was a Holland Lop rabbit that we got for @saigereale ā€˜s 13th birthday 9 1/2 years ago. Brandy led a privileged life never spending any time in a cage. For many years, she had her run of the house unrestricted, but in the last year, she has been living in the backyard due to losing some control over her bowels and shedding a lot. She seemed to really love living out there, hopping around eating plants and basking in the sun. We always thought it was possible that she may be taken by some kind of predator even though she was quite good at hiding under and behind things and honestly are surprised that she lasted this long back there. @kieranreale went in the backyard this afternoon and found her in one of her many hiding places, but she had a mortal wound to her side. We’re not sure if maybe she died and then something came and snacked on her postmortem, or if she was attacked by a bird of prey and retreated to the hiding place in hopes of escaping. In either case, she is now resting peacefully in rabbit heaven. Rest in peace, Brandy Melville. Hop on!! šŸ‡ā¤ļø

27 years ago on this date, the two of us from completely opposite sides of the world who shared a common love of Bodyboarding, tied the knot with all of our Bodyboarding world tour friends in attendance at Kualoa Ranch on O’ahu. Many travels, two kids, a few businesses built from the ground up, plenty of blood, sweat, and tears later, and we’re still going. We (I) may not look as young and spry as we did 27 years ago, but the fire still burns within, and though the road ahead is definitely going to have some bumps as we get older, our love will remain our strength to get us to the finish line, whenever that might be. I love you so much @vickireale and wish you the happiest of anniversaries! ā¤ļøšŸ„°šŸ˜˜
