sorrel + salt soul plate 🍗
My grandad is from Atlanta and this holy trio was a staple in his house growing up; collard greens, fried chicken & creamy southern mash.
Went for a more Jamaican style fried chicken and sweet potato mash, but stayed true to his greens. Words can’t describe how this came out.
More thanksgiving teasers coming your way so stay tuned! 👀
The meal ➡️ the mug
Stuffed peppers with herby rice, garlic yoghurt and scotch bonnet oil
Spicy rum-glazed wings
Sweet sorrel iced tea to wash it down 🥤
C0RN RIBS 🌽 with a smoked sea-salt paprika, cayenne, cumin and sumac seasoning, topped with mint. Roasted garlic & honey chipotle mayo on the side for double (triple) dipping bc it’s easily the best sauce I’ve made so far.
Ppl who hate sweetcorn but love corn on the cob rise ⬆️
On the menu this week:
Caribbean fishcakes with tangy slaw and a VERY cumin-forward scotch bonnet tomato chutney
Smokey maple-roasted pumpkin with a coriander chimmichuri dressing
Dark chocolate mousse spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice drizzled with orange-infused olive oil 🍊🍊🍊
A lil introduction! I’m Jaye, aka sorrel + salt.
After an almost decade in marketing and editorial, I’m following my passion and documenting my journey to becoming a full-time chef.
sorrel + salt is modern, creative plates inspired by my favourite food regions; the American South, the Caribbean, and West Africa.
Lots of BBQ, bold flavours, fresh herbs, and soul.
