It’s been a week in Los Angeles…
Lots of change. Lots of pages turning. Ends and beginnings. Highs and lows.

Right here at Manhattan Beach Pier I’ve made many big life decisions over the years - from where to go for college to what life trajectories to pursue. There’s power in ever changing but ever constant ebb and flow of the waves…

Here’s to the next chapter, and grateful for places like this to set the course…

Over time my understanding of what it means to be a mother has changed quite a bit. When I was very young I thought moms, and my mom in particular, knew everything. I thought they were invincible and didn’t struggle with the ups and downs, joys and disappointments, that I felt as a kid. Mom’s are steady, constant sources of love and knowledge.
_
Now I smile when I think about that naive way of seeing the world and seeing family, and I see moms…and again, my mom in particular, as deeply human - with all the flaws and imperfections and hopes, dreams, fears, insecurities, and character traits that we all have. I see they don’t know everything, don’t have it all together, and are figuring things out as they go the same as the rest of us.
_
But instead of that lessening my appreciation, on the contrary it multiples it significantly. My mother while she was wrestling with a million battles all her own, still showed up for me - still laid down her own life, her own convenience, and her own peace of mind to give me a glimpse of what unconditional love really looks like. She fought her battles and mine with me as a kid and all through life. And Sherry Denton, in particular, in whatever she does - brings ALL of herself to it - and she lives, fights, and loves fiercely.
_
And I wouldn’t trade that for the world.
So to Nana, my sister, and especially the one I get to call, “Mom” - 3 generations of badass women - thank you for all you do both that I and the others in your lives see, and for all the millions of things you do that we don’t see….and happy, HAPPY Mother’s Day.

Happy Birthday Mom! It’s been a minute since this photo was taken…but I’m grateful that although you clearly failed to teach me where a waistline is meant to be worn in a pair of shorts, you’ve shown me more wisdom, grace, and love than I ever understood then and probably ever will.

Here’s to another year, a whole lot more memories, but the exact same fashion sense throughout…
Love you.
