i've had the final composition since 2022 when i was living in KW but at that point was physically unable to perform the material the way it required, and i didn't wanna play it solo. @joshua.dkz and i tracked the drums at red gate at the start of this year & being able to one-take it and feel confident is quite a mark of progress from how i've been able to approach both the material and myself from the past handful of years. if anything it feels relieving to let go this thing that's been with me for so long and sit with my own growth & recognized potential.
it honours my original intentions to show how emotionally percussive voice can speak without having to support another instrument or structure, and also bridges into the future as we build on these big sounds & feelings as an ensemble, looking forward to moving on, enjoy the past for now.
it feels pointless to even think about wanting to make "art" at this stage of the world's history, but also, sound can empower you. the exertion has helped me out of ongoing poor health & finding new ways to surpass limits in my body gives me something to keep exploring and breaks me open (positively). from the response of the shows we played last year, it seems clear those experiences are not just limited to my body in the room, so if the sound can supply a relief, that's the goal.

this show was canned shortly after i put up the original flyer a couple weeks ago but i kept moving sliders and am still stoked on it ... haven't drawn much in the past couple years but have been finding joy in exploring these little crafts instead
quick sketch to catch your eye ... have been working on a contact dance operetta with these three for the past month working up to our eventual performances next weekend at what lab. i'll be playing drums (and more). the theme that noelle approached us with were about staying in your body when experiencing high/low extremes instead of leaving it, emphasis on motion and exertion. during our practices, as i was drumming i felt the others were "playing" me with their movements, instead of acting as an anchor they were guiding my body and i haven't experienced that kind of sync with a group before. it's been real fun. tickets are by donation! u just gotta rsvp
excited to announce this friendsfest i put together at @takeurtimeback - wanted to play with all of these bands for some time and want to start playing drums in front of ppl again too. i did the poster 🐚🌀 hope to see u
